SPEED CAMERA
Popped over from Kent to the darkside today and as I turned off the M25 on to the A13 spotted a grubby white transit-sized van parked on the bridge (just past where the 4 lanes split into Lakeside / A13 Southend bound traffic) with a camera poking out through a porthole in the side. Assume its a speed camera in which case you guys may be aware of it already. Just thought I mention it as its just at the point where you start to accelerate off the slip road. B****ds

As for the van of course you could all be way of the mark blaming the Police and it 'could' just be a DVLA ANPR van for Road Tax !! In my experience Essex Police have no vans that use speed detection equipment out the side of the van and all vans are marked accordingly. DVLA use white unmarked vans as do VOSA etc.
Hope that clears it up.

It is god to have Tissy on this site to give us some accurate info! Saw him on the A13 a couple of weeks ago in the Evo, still remember it as the biggest crowd puller on the Tunnel run!.

Tissy, I spoke to Essex Safety Cameras, they said all their vans are fully stickered up, and the guy I spoke to had no knowledge of the A13 bridge being an Essex Safety Camera Site, so it does not appear to off been an Essex Safety Van.
My friend on another motoring bbs saw it there the weekend before baser999 did, so it would seem its a regular thing (Baz has also seen it on a Thursday).
So that leaves Council, DVLA, or the Police themselves. Do you think the Police would do a covert speed trap, I thought they left it all to the safety vans these days? Would they even use a completely unmarked white van?

The majority of speed detection for these types of things are all above board and generally carried out by Camera Enforcement Unit in appropriately marked vehicle. They are not sneeky. I doubt it will be another Police unit as we don't have them for speed etc.
Milamber - Well spotted mate, yup, Dunmow today collecting them from Dunmow Mitsubishi.
