Pretty sure I've read you have to be a member for 24 hours before calling them out....Otherwise people woudn't need to join "unless" they had a breakdown.

You can sort of see their point if you only join after you have broken down.
It would be like only paying your insurance premium when you had an accident. The insurers would soon go bust if for every £500 premium they had to fork out £5,000 in repairs.

Well they know if your in a breakdown situation you will pretty much pay anything they ask for to get you back home or to a garage.
I have to say though I had to call the RAC out the other day as the bolt that holds the power steering pump to the altenator casing sheered and the P/S belt went slack as well as the pump hanging off!
they came out and produced a perfect low loader where the back comes practically to the floor making it easy to get the lowered car on without smashing bits off, they could not of been more helpfull and i was gratefull of there assistance.
Although they are not always so good, on one occasion i stood waiting for the recovery lorry for 2 and a half hours, when it did arrive it hit a volvo and pulled its front bumper off, didnt leave his details for the volvo owner either!

Hmmm must be something to do with the Area you live in
They need more patrols down there
Alot is to do with the office and despatchers as Dave oftens gets a call when he starts his shift, arrives at broken down car and the member has been waiting for over 2 hrs........ believe me there are many rows between the Patroller and the Office workers who despatch the calls......
Sorry to hear CK that you had to wait for so so long

After many years with the AA and RAC I switched over to Subaru Assistance this year - seem to offer the same service and include Europe for less money than both the others. I suppose though its like your insurance in so far as you're never going to know who's the better until you need them.
