If you would like to see a site with quite a few pictures (particuallry of LCD touchscreen fitted) with more being added soon of a custom CarPC, have a look at Subaru Impreza CarPC Thats mine !!!

FishUK - you're in Buckhurst Hill ? mmmmm, not far, may have to meet up and exchange notes ??? !!! Also, what front end are you using? I have made some nice software customisations particulalry for Subarus.

Steve

Brentwoods not far. What's the hardware and although Windows 2000 is the OS, what are you using as the front-end to control the multimedia side of things ?

Whats the touchscreen you are using and how is it mounted etc ? Also are you running GPS ?

Windows XP still works well though and i have a special version which has been stripped of all the stuff that is unlikely to be used in this type of application.

Have you had the chance to look at mine?

OK point taken, need to update some web links etc to make it clearer. Its hard putting together a site when you know all the answers, so your feedback is appriciated.

For now here are the answers to your question.

The Stereo is fitted as it has Aux inputs to feed the audion from the PC to the existing car system. Also, if i want to listen to a CD or Radio, i still can without the need to powering up the CarPC. Ideal for a short journey etc. This is my preference, some power everything through an amp, but unless you have a radio card or USB radio device, you can loose the standard radio function.

The Black BOX, is called a A4 Pack-box, this is what all the motherboard etc is mounted in. Again my choice of enclosure, but there are many others.

My mother board is what is called a ITX board, which is a lot smaller than a standard ITX motherboard and designed for this kind of application. The model is an EPIA SP-1300. The MB, enclosure and and Car PSU are all purchased from LinITX.com - Mini ITX and computer components shop Worth looking at as this explains the purpose of all the parts i have used, which have been custom selected by me for use in my Impreza.

Hope this help, if there any other questions please email me direct if you wish. Or indeed if you would like to see the system i can arrange.
