Default Freaking car

Yesterday when I was driving, my car stopped boosting

Checked all the induction pipes, FMIC, boost solenoid etc and they seem fine, took of the induction kit and pipe to the turbo to find the turbo compressor has seized.

Am going to get a new turbo, get it MOT'd and now I'm seriously considering selling it now.

Would conisder swapping it for a crewcab pick up

Sorry to hear about your bad luck mate

Maybe it was one of the belts slipping ??

If it was you could always use one of your stockings as a make shift replacement

I blew the engine up going to Nurburging, and it cost me £3000 to rebuild with a new 2.5 block, Cometic 3 layer S/S head gaskets, Roger Clark modified oil pump, ARP head studs, oil catch tank, Apexi ECU with commander, electronic boost solenoid valve, all new subaru gaskets, I also ported the heads slightly, got 440cc injectors to go on (I haven't had the time to do so).

After this, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the car, apart from sorting the turbo out and MOT it, put the injectors in have it remapped then take it from there.

Thanks BB

Just ordered a turbo repair kit, so hopefully, fingers crossed, that it's just the bearings seized.

True, but think of all the fun he'll have ar*ing the back end out on roundabouts!! Plus the money he'd save on fixing the scoob, would go towards fueling the Dodge!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't be able to find out why it's seized until I strip it down, but at the moment, it feels like the bearings are binding, no obvious damage to the compressor fins.
The company I bought the repair kit from, has a full range of TD05 spares on the shelf, so I'll order whats needed

Yeah thats fine mate, however its unusual for bearings to just go. If the bearing was on its way out there would be play in the shaft which would cause wear between the comp housing and the comp wheel.

If there is no obvious wear between these surfaces, it sounds as though this seizure as come on rather sudden hense why i find cause for concern.. possible blockage in feed pipe maybe?

Bailey do a small turbo oil pre-filter for the cossie of which om sure you could adapt for yours..

Priceless little addition IMO mate

When I rebuilt the engine, I checked the turbo over, and there wasn't any play in the bearings, and no endfloat or any binding, there was no smoke to indicate oil seals, just a sudden loss of boost pressure.

I thought the same thing mate, an oil pipe blockage, hence just buying a rebuild kit.

You're not wrong about the oil filter, I was honestly thinking the same thing earlier this evening, seen loads of kits for Cossies (Cosworth to you Sara)
but none for the Impreza!! a bit of fabrication coming up me thinks.

Thanks for that Frayz the second opinion, gladly welcome mate
