Yesterday, I done something wonderful.
I saved a life.
I have been a blood donor for several years, and in January this year, I signed up to be a bone marrow donor.
Normally, people sign up to the registy, never to hear anything again.
In May, I was sent a letter from the BBMR (British Bone Marrow Registry), to tell me I was a possible match, and after some blood tests I was told I was fortunate enough to be a match with somebody, and so yesterday, I was havested for my bone marrow, using a machine.
I am on a high at the moment (although very tired) knowing that I have given somebody else the opportunity to live.
Whe I had my counselling, I was told only 5% of the British population donate blood, out of those, only 5% sign up to the bone marrow register, and out of those, only 5% are actually matched and harvested.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is, it's a great feeling to help people, and if more people donated. there would be more lives saved.
