Finally finished stripping the old engine down, and found the problem, not surprising really:

Big end bearing on Number 4 piston self destructed
just a mangled mess, damn lucky the block didn't explode along with it!! at least it helped locking the crankshaft in place so I could take off the flywheel

No mate, the block around the main bearings is badly damaged as well, all it's good for is a coffee table
