FAO ESC Golfers
Hi guys
Am going to be buying a set of clubs in the next few weeks, but have no idea at all what to look for.
Am a pretty average golfer (looking to improve), would i be better with an oversized head?
Really have no idea at all. (Have been using a putter, pitching wedge, 4 iron and 7 iron up till now)
Cheers
Gary

the advice I was given when buying my first set was to get a set with cavity backs, apparently this makes them more forgiving, which is important for a beginner/improver.
I only used that set before the upgrading bug got me and I splashed out on a set of forged Macgregors, though to be honest they did not improve my game at all, just made me feel happier.
If you are intersted in a second hand set, I still have the first set, was about to put them on ebay. Let me know if you might be interested and I will e-mail some pic's and all the details,
Cheers,
Neil - YVM
Why not join us on our next society day, 26th April and i'll lend them to you for the day to try out?

Well 6 months ago i was in the same position as you mate .
Used to play alot colt member playing 6/7 Nights a week @ a local course , Then stopped playing for about 8-10 years ( Football this time )
Anyway just started playing again
Also decided to get a set of clubs fitted as im a little on the large side
So i went to the American Golf discount store & Spent about 2 hours in the nets hitting different irons , In the end decided on a lovely set of PING G2'S ( Game improvement irons )
Had them fitted to suit me ie - Longer shatfs , thicker grips , lie & Loft also changed
i found thge American golf store really helpfull in helping me to get a new set of clubs & would reccomend them to anyone
Why not join us on the 26th April @ The Hertfordshire

Hi Gary
Been offline on the **** all weekend and playing the odd round of golf.
When looking for a new set of clubs, dont be swayed by the names. Try a big store like the one Tiny mentioned, and try as many different makes of clubs as you can.
99% of golfers will use cavity back clubs, this generates more forgiveness on poor shots and an increased sweet spot. What they will lack compared to blades will be the workablity - being able to draw or fade the ball on command. This really shouldnt be something you look at to base your decision on as most of the time we dont want the ball to move left or right, we just want straight!
You can pick up a set of state of the art, top of the range golf clubs from, ping, mizuno, or titleist for around £500 / £800 depending on if you go down the graphite shaft range. So, set yourself a budget of what you want to spend, then go try the makes out in that range.
Try some places online, to gauge prices on the makes and models you prefer.
Tiny mentioned American Golf, also worth a look at if you have one near you is nevada bobs, from past experience they dont try to force the most expensive set on you - they want you to be able to use what they are selling you.
The clubs are only half the battle - personally if it was me, before you go out and spend a lot of money on a new set of clubs, find a course near you that has a decent teaching pro, get a few lessons then ask him / her what clubs they would suggest.
There is a big event on at the end of the month at excel, www.thelondongolfshow.com if you can get there it may be worth a look.

Now the lighter evenings are here i should be able to practise a bit and try to get to a reasonable level....eventually!!!

I have been trying to be good, must save for a new kitchen, Ange is getting fed up seeing all the fantastic ones we install for customers and not having a decent one ourselves.
I don't know if Milamber has mentioned it, but he is going to Imola soon , without me this year. But still he cajoles me to go, even in front of Andrea, & now he posts up this, Aaah. You know I can't resist.
I suppose we don't have to have the granite , or maybe we could live without the Neff units?
Sept / October time????
