Default HKS Replica SSQV or Genuine? Please help

Hey all,

Im wanting to get myself a HKS VTA as ive heard that these are the best for sound etc.

Ive found new genuine ones on ebay delivered for £155.

Ive also found these, that are not genuine but look identical.

Here,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true

Is the genuine one really gonna be worth the extra £110?
Does anyone have any experience of these?

The adapter to fit my car i will make myself as im an engineer and this wont be a problem.

Please help

But are we just paying for the mark up?

ive found a few from companies that sell both and they say theyre from the same factory and have all interchangeable parts with the HKS items.

Just think its obsurd paying £180 + for a bloody dump valve, its not exactly a performance part, it just sounds nice lol

has anyone here seen or heard a replica?

I think that if your engine goes as a result of a cheap item, the extra 110 would have been well worth paying.

Have a look through technicall area for countless horror stories.

But seriously, how many people have actually blown engines due to a VTA?

sounds a bit suspect to me.

All of this bore wash sounds like anorak nonsence to me. All the lads @ extreme scoobies have VTAs.

Not doubting your comments but it just doesnt add up to me.

i've got the hks ssqv and the noise is spot on!!
I also saw the cheaper ones, but decided that the extra for the real deal was worth it when your motor is involved, also the fact i'm a hks ***** played a margin in the decision

lets put it this way.......if you are going to buy replica's for your scooby when most people buy the original gear, why didnt you buy a replica scooby?

what im saying is if you have a car that you luv so much and want only the best for it why take short cuts. If it was me i would buy the real thing then i wouldn't have to worry " is it or isn't it going to cause damage to my scoob"

the advice i see here is buy the real mcoy.

Only problem I can see with VTA's are if the piston seizes and don't release pressure or won't hold the boost, but that can happen with the original recirculating dumpvalves, so if you're that worried about it, why have a turbo.

The main thing with VTA's on scoobynet is the heated debates that go with it, the "purists" don't like them and slag off everyone who's got one or wants one, absolutely pathetic imo.

As John says, get the real deal, I would, just for the piece of mind.

ps My scoob has the original HKS Sequential VTA, and I love the sound of it
Betts has the newer HKS Super Sequential VTA and you can hear him coming a mile off, 2 miles if you include his exhaust!!

with reards to the "purists" i think they just assosiate VTA wit CHAV, and try to scare a lot of newbies off of them - not saying your a newbie mate - Just what normally happens

If you do get one, let us know what its like as this is my next planned mod, apart from fixing the bugger, along with a special flamer kit to run along side a "popper" kit

All the best

Do it! Get the real deal and you will have no probs at all, when mine was in for engine work the guy said i got the best blow off valve for it, he said you will never leak boost with this one as it is a whole different mechanism to the bailey and other ones. If your there at the tunnel cruise you can have a listen to mine chirping away!

yeah guys i am pretty much a newbie, im an ex cossie boy and still learning what i can get away with with this engine etc.

Im just so pi55ed of with not being able to get a propper answer from anyone. Even bloody tuners have mixed opinions.

Too many keyboard cowboys around and not enough people with a proper factual answer. This is the reason i end up posting technical questions in the ESC section, cos i know people will actually reply.

While were at it whats the deal with induction kits? good/bad? do they kill MAFs etc?

Induction kits are again a mixed topic. I put one on mine and was pleased with it, until it went in for ecu and a tune. The tuner said he could not get any benefit out of it, the heat soak was just retarding the point of induction kit, so we slapped the airbox back on and put performance filter in. Some say induction will cause harm on MAF sensor but not if its tuned properly. if you want some induction noise take a hack saw to the snorkel silencer that is situated in the right hand side wing of the car, info on how to do this is on www.scoobymods.com

Apparently, the MAF sensor on face lifts and new age are weak, and induction kits can kill them unless the ECU is mapped for it, betts has a cold air induction kit on his blobeye WRX and he hasn't had any problems with it, and it's not mapped

I think people are a little wary of saying as def "yeah go for it" when it comes to certain mods, as as soon as something goes wrong due to said mods, people start laying blame anywhere they can. Tis the society we live in now

Once again, am not refering to you, but people in general.
