Agreed. The 06 is a bloody mess ... take away all the best bits of the STI 8 & 9 and put in it's place a detuned car with the same rigid warranty restrictions and a stupid barry boy top window spoiler! Someone at IM needs their head smashed into the side of the 06 over and over and over again.

Phil ... detuning a 2.5ltr has nothing to do with UK regulations. Otherwise Mitsuibishi would have done the same thing and not be producing 320 and 340 bhp variants of the lancer.
Simple fact is Subaru have put in the 2.5 and detuned to attempt to make the car more driveable and appealing to the older generations of impreza enthusiasts. This is the only explanation for what is a fatal competitive error when you look a mitsubishi, which will take a huge chunk of market share from this. I for one am changing and a know of many others that are looking to do the same.
If the powerplant had of been pushed to 350bhp with a 400bhp PPP then I would have bought the new car regardless of the look because that can easily be changed. But simple fact is the car looks **** and has no significant advances to compensate for the risk taken on the look.
Good for the cardigan crew who want to stand in a car park and kick the tyres talking about how much better the 280bhp 2.5ltr is over the 4 year old 280bhp 2.0ltr ... not good for the people that track and use these cars properly that EXPECTED subaru to take the fight to mitsubishi and finally produce a car that has the power to compete and change the stakes.

The cars come into this country under a gentlemens agreement to not exceed 280 BHP IIRC.
As for the levels of Tuning to be warranty Safe, i.e. Prodrive PP, we can only speculate at this stage but there are many rumours out there suggesting a 3 stage package as they have in the States. which could well see the figures you mentioned.Lets hope that is indeed in the pipeline.
As for the looks its a personal thing, It is very SEAT looking. Having seen one in the flesh I quite like it but hey I liked the Bugeye ......PMSL
If you decide to move to the dark side I am sure you will not be dissapointed although I would have stuck with your original aspirations and go for that Noble I would then be jealous

Noble was on the cards until I test drove the Sagaris, Sagaris was on the cards until I drove the FQ400. Still yet to be beaten apart from that ridiculous Porsche that Dunton now drives (I'm very very very jealous) but I don't have £80,000 so no Porsche just yet!

I would still suggest that the Evo Variants 320 and above would not meet UK Import laws and are only circumnavigated by "aftermarket" upgrades equivalent to the Prodrive PP.
As for the Evo 400 I have never had the pleasure, and I know you have but to me £47k seems a lot of money
as for Mr Dunton I have never been a lover of the Porker but I have to admit it is a tool and a half

No mate ... whilst sitting in a jam along the seafront, with about 40 people just staring at the Porsche, Steve turned to me and said (and I quote) "I think I'll adjust my spoiler into the high position" With that he pressed a button on his dash and the spoiler raised up electronically.
That alone gives the car another 150,000bhp! Not to mention all the people outside going "oh look the spoiler is moving electronically, PHAT!" <finger slap, finger slap, finger slap>
That sold the Porshce to me there and then! I'd even put up with the red seatbelts!
