Default Southend Legal Cruise - Looking for Private funding as council pull out

And guess who gets the blame !!!

We do !!! [ ok not just us ]

No not you Spally

Evidently because other cruisers still come down on other nights the council no longer are going to fund it

POINTS I WILL BE MAKING WHEN I SEE THE COUNCILLOR IN CHARGE

1. A Cruise is NOT STATIC

2. How can we support a "Show" when we are banned

3. You can't stop people wanting a night out

Shame really because if this was done correctly we could have had hundreds of cars, FFS we bring 50+ Impreza's

yes as most cruisers have wives/girlfriends & kiddies, who use PETER PANS PLAYGROUND when there boyfriends/husbands park up & chat for a while, then have a little drive.
then home,
YES point 3. its a nite out.

This is a subject that is very close to my heart ... having lived in Southend all my life and been a regular in the seafront circles since I was 17.

The legal cruise was started up to feed the ego of it's creator. Ashley . Who, lets be honest, was only in it for the monetary benefits as well as getting personal exposure. I mean the guy doesn't even own a car.

There was really no point to the legal cruise in my opinion. Cruising is all about driving around and showing cars off ... the legal cruise had the same cars and same stands week on week. All the real cruisers were forced to park up by westcliff casino or head to Basildon. What is needed is a general acceptance by the local council that cruising should be embraced as part of the towns heritage and not be policed and outlawed to the extent that is has been. Why fund something that 90% of the regulars of the southend circuit think is a waste of time?????

The southend cruise circuit has been around since the 1970s and is a firm part of the towns heritage. when people think about modded cars and car meets in general Southend is the place to be. That is not such a bad thing, people say it's all about driving dangerously and creating a nuiscence, so why should a town be pround of it. Idiots account for about 5 or 6 cars out of approximately 2000+ that head down to southend week on week ... and the local business benefit infinitely out of the weekly intake of cars and car lovers. The police and council can try every preventative method they can think of but It will not stop cars from meeting up in the vicinity ... coming down with a heavy hand doesn't work either because it just creates resentment and bad feelings towards the police.

Cruising isn't about what you've got either. People stand and tear down the guys (and girls) who buy cheap cars and add various bodykits and spoilers to try and make them look better ... in many cases not! But I am all for doing the best with what you have ... arrogance has no place on the cruising scene - it never has and never will.

The more the southend cruise scene is comercialised the greater the cruising 'problem' will become for the council. Nobody wanted the legal cruise ... all the meetings and council hearings that happened to agree upon the legal cruise did not once include a large enough proportion of the people that actually are part of the scene and know what it's about. In all fairness to yourself Phil the SIDC is a corporate entity and although the ESC have a monthly meet in southend not many of it's members or even yourself know much about what happens in southend on a daily basis, therefore how can you feel able to accurately comment on 'correcting' a 'situation' that you don't really know much about? The councellors are just as guilty ... I mean I live very close to one and the guy is a complete egotistical self promoting prat - he cares absolutely nothing about what people feel, just what will enable him to angle himself better for a better seat in parliament. How can these people decide what is best for a group of people numbering in the thousands who have frequented southend every week, rain or shine, for 30 or so years??

The best thing that can be done in this situation is to forget all this corporate and commercial bullsh!t and to just embrace the saturday night cruise. The day the council do that and stop trying to stop it the better it will be for all.

I am not having a go at the ESC and SIDC in this post - I am just making the point that it does not represent the southend regulars for whom the cruise scene is a part of their lives. This subject is very close to my heart and because of it I have very strong opinions towards it. I apologise if my comments about people are strong but I don't like being part of a group that are being represented by people that know nothing about what that group want.

Perhaps when you are talking to the councellor in charge Phil you could question his or her knowledge on the subject and how much he or she knows about what the southend cruise scene is really about.

If people what a show then go to Max Power or any of the other shows that are put on. Southend is about seeing these modified and exotic cars on the road, and talking to the owners. It's always continued and always will continue. The more the council make it illegal and outlawed the more it will happen as danger, not surprisingly, is what makes it so appealing to people.

Illegal street racing, which is what these ill informed councellors are banging on about, is a separate issue. Unfortunately it has been lumped in with cruising because people believe that one leads onto another.

It infuriates me so much to hear about these out of touch cronies and fat cats who run Southend council blabbering on in the press about how much of a scurge the cruisers all are.

I would ask the following question to the councellor.

... What group of 200 people would you rather spend an evening with? 200 cruisers and car nuts who you can identify very easily and who are never out to cause trouble. Or 200 drunks who have just come out of a club and who want to fight and hurt people for no particular reason other than they're beered up brain cell tells them to, many of them from out of town?

I know where I would prefer to be!

.... on another note in the local paper the other day was an article about the police officer who was beaten senseless at 9pm on southend seafront by out of town drunks who had come down to settle a gang related issue.

I saw this happen and the only reason the officer was injured was because the police were up the other end of the seafront chasing cars all over the place because of fog lights and dodgy numberplates. He was left alone, to deal with a mob of over 25 men.

What needs controlling ... the cars that have frequented the town since the 70s or the serious problem southend has with drunks and gangs who go out to hurt and intimidate people and who have no care for people or more scarily the Police?

Where is the sense??

I apologise for my awful spelling in these messages ... had a lot to say on the issue and not much time to type it.

very important issue IMO mate ... could directly affect your sunday night jaunts!

I've been asked to go to Brands that month also and think I'm going to opt for there instead of Snetterton.

No not you Spally ..........phew

well put gangsta, have been going down there aswell since i was 16 so that's now 14 or so years, and yes there are complete kn@bs that go down there but they are in the minority........and as gangsta has said have seen more fights than idiot drivers down there. So will they close down all the pubs/clubs????

Think how much money the doghnut stalls etc must make on a saturday evening, surely a few of them could not survive without that trade???

Some good points Rob,

I will only be seeing the councillor as is my right as a resident NOT as a "representitive" of your cruise scene.

My previous dealings only sought for us to be appreciated rather than frowned upon, The Southend Cruise Partnership [SCP]was something that was formed without any input from me

Your quote "I don't like being part of a group that are being represented by people that know nothing about what that group want" I assume is directed at SCP

The Question is do you want to do something about it ? i.e. keep lobying the authorities or just leave it as it is

AS you know I have a passion for the Club and I will happily assit if you feel it is required

Okay.....where has the REAL Gangsta gone?

Seriously though, well said Rob.

Southend just wouldn't be the same without the cruise. I remember being taken down the Seafront by my parents to see the "American Hotrods" that used to turn up in the early '80's.....totally awesome!

Phil

As a regular and supporter of the scene I will always be part of it regardless of the legality. I am just voicing what the true feelings of the cruisers are and not what the Southend Cruise Partnership says it is.

Some things are best left unchanged. I just want somebody to show these morons who run the town how easy the 'problem' is to solve. I.e. there is no problem, and never has been. The town is rapidly becomming a toilet town dur to the effects of the drugs, aids, immigrant and lawlessness epidemic we are seeing occur ... all this is happening whilst the ******* councellors moan about the potholes outside their houses damaging the new alloys on their BMWs. Disgracefull

When we first started going down to Southend, we told Tiny's dad, and he remembers going there in the 60's on his bike cruisin up and down the front. So it has been about for a long time.

Have to say when I read that it cost US [Southend Resident] £20,000 to run this I was shocked

The Cliffs are falling into the sea and we waste this amount of money!!

It should of generated money !!

and perhaps Gangsta is right, does it need "legalising"? I mean the posers cruise doesn't break any laws and brings great revenue in for the seafront traders and enjoyment for the spectators
