Wake up Essex group!
No posts on here since 5th Aug!!
Thought I'd let you know of something to look out for - Went to start the car last Friday and after about 30 secs there came a scary knocking noise! Switch off quick! Peered uner the bonnet and saw the alternator belt was split. Wondering why this would actually make a knocking noise, I set to and removed the belt. I decided that at 12 years old it hadn't done bad so replacement of the aircon belt seemed an obvious thing to do as well. On removing this one I realised what had made the knocking sound - the crank pulley had decided to part company with its hub! (rubber damper)
Hd to use the starter motor trick to undo the pulley bolt but it's all done now with a CDF billet pulley fitted.

Relieved to hear it was nothing too serious John, heaven only knows it could have been A LOT worse.
Good work clocking it when you did, although I'll have to check mine now, you've made me paranoid.

Nah.......................I ordered a blue one and they sent a black one so, no bling factor!
I'm a bit nervous that it may cause resonance at some point in the rev range? Subaru fit a damped pulley for a reason! I searched for threads on using billet pulleys and most were favourable. Have only driven 15 miles at low(ish) revs so don't know the effect, yet.

I have a set of CDF pulleys on mine, never had any issues so far. There are a few threads on the debate about the harmonic dampening mechanism thingy, but came to the same conclusion - most seemed to say they are fine.

I had the full set fitted on the Stealth Wagon.
The Stock size kit consists of :-
Crank pulley weighing 550 grams. (or Underdrive crank pulley 350 grams)
Powersteering pulley weighing 200 grams.
Alternator pulley weighing 50 grams. Which is less weight than the large steel nut that holds it on.
Power gain achieved ???
The butt dyno says the car was more responsive & it seemed to spin up a lot easier. Well the shift light came up with what felt like a lot less effort.
This shows a car with just a crank pulley fitted so does not include the lightweight power steering & alternator pulleys.
An increase of 10 bhp and 7 lbft torque. So maybe a few more bhp with the full set?

Much discussion around the benefits/draw backs of light weight pulleys vs OEpulleys, the consensus of those with any basic knowledge of physics is toretain the OE pulley that is designed as a harmonic damper...or spend somemoney on a proper aftermarket pulley that has been designed as a harmonicdamper.
Ati make proper harmonic dampers and they are reassuring expensive
