Subaru Repairs Essex
I had my cambelt changed today at Subaru Repairs Essex and wanted to share a review. They're in Wickford, so nice and local for most in the Essex area I imagine!
I'm really glad I chose Subaru Repairs Essex for my cambelt change. I was given good advise before, during and after fitting, I was shown the parts that were going to be fitted before they went in so I could see that they weren't cheap and nasty, it was done in record time, was cheaper than the next closest Subaru specialist, and to top it off Neil is a really friendly and genuine bloke! He was even kind enough to fit my oil pressure sensor to the engine while he had it all apart!
Top work, I know where I'll be going the next time I need work done to my Scoob!!

Just wanted to add to this.... From seeing this thread I booked in with Neil after a chat. I went yesterday and had cambelt and full service including all oil changes. I was extremely impressed... Great quality work, really good guy who knows what he is talking about and owns a stunning classic. Really good price for the work and very quick job. Honestly can't recommend them enough here was really chuffed especially when he sorted a couple of other little bits he found for me.
Will be going here for all my work in future

DO NOT USE
Suffered Ringland failures couple of years ago.. new to the Subaru world and didn’t know who to use. Looked and found a couple of good reviews for these guys so he rebuilt my engine which ran ok for 6 months until it broke so I took it back and was told it was because it ran lean. So I trusted him to build it again... under a year later same thing... took it to an excellent builder who took it apart with me there and he diagnosed it with incorrect ring gaps forcing them to buckle under the beat and score the bores... I showed him the pictures of when it went bad before and he said it was the same thing and any decent builder would have known that. Also found bolts missing, marks in the camshaft where grips were used to remove the cam bolts and all torque settings were wrong along with incorrect valve clearances.
Just do your research people or you could fork out over £6000 for two broken engines.

I know a few people on a Facebook page that have used them, and have had no end of problems with them. the guy who posted hasn’t been the only one in which they’ve blown up an engine with a poor build. Avoid at all costs!.

The guy is an absolute cowboy. Amazing he still has all his fingers...
Did a 'service' on my one, few days later an oil leak was spotted, the prat had put the plug on without a washer, hence a slow drip of oil. Numerous others were missed, rotting bushes, brake pads running low, split CV boot, asked for the diff oil to be changed, the ***** didn't even take the draining bolt off.
I got off lightly but there are others who have lost hundreds even thousands. Avoid at all costs, from the Facebook page of might look like he has fans but it's all hot air.

Sadly a few of the local to Essex 'specialists' are just as bad. I had a cambelt done on mine at another local place, 60 miles later it jumped a tooth as I believe the tensioner wasn't done up right and I spotted various other bodges. took it back (on a flatbed) to be looked at and a new kit was installed - incorrectly and the timing was so far out it sounded like hell. Long story short, new engine needed in the end.

Too bad
That’s too bad jay kay.. I know how you feel... I have now heard a lot of bad about them from other people and Subaru groups.... happy to say my engine has been rebuilt perfectly this time... he doesn’t have his own business but has been building Subaru engines for years and is well respected.... if anyone needs a name.

I had been searching for a reconditioned engine for my WRX STI and it hadn't been easier, however, Subaru Engines & Gearboxes made it very simple to find and buy the cheapest engine in no time, I got quotes from 6 engine suppliers and bought from the one who offered the best deal. I will highly recommend subaruenginesandgearboxes.co.uk/engines/ to anyone looking for a replacement Subaru engine.
