Still over revving, suggested electronic issue
Had a niggling issue for a little while now that when I engage the clutch the car over revs, it's not persistent, sometimes it doesn't do it, sometimes are worse than others,
The car was mapped last year in October and had the issue then, it was suggested that the problem would be the Icv,
Since then I've replaced the Icv and looked at a few other things to no avail,
After giving in it went to a specialist today who checked everything that could cause this issue, from vacuum leaks, gearbox and clutch switches, maf etc, nothing was found out of the ordinary and the cause I was told could be diagnosed through another map,
The car is a v8 sti by the way
If it was an electronic issue I'm suprised it Wouldn't of been picked up on its first map so if any one else has had the same niggling issue before or any ideas would be good to hear your views,
Cheers

I have the same v8 sti and the same problem since it was mapped. Before it was mapped it would do it in 5th sometimes but I got pops and bangs mapped in in October by andy Forrestand it then decided to do it through every gear. Took mine to see rob ostle and he said it will be that with them being mapped in so aggressively on overrun that that was the cause.Reluctantly took it back to andy Forrest and got them removed. Still not solved. Still do the same but now my scoob has decided it doesn't want to boost as good as before. Also I noticed that since having the pops and bangs, when I rev it high and let it slow itself down that if I go for a higher gear that the clutch pedal feels like the clutch is about to give up. Not sure what this is and its really worrying me now. Mines going in to stan Palmer middle of next month for coilovers to be fitted and to fit my new brake setup but they're going to clean the icv out and hopefully should sort it, however this sounds identical to your problem and at the exact same time

Yeah it needs sorted. Is yours ecutek aswel? And did you ever rev it to 7000 rpm and let off then blip the throttle? It was contrant rapid pops and bangs and that's when I noticed the clutch pedal issue. I know its not the clutch though as its only 6 months old and not been abused

Did it do this before the remap?
I had a similar problem after a remap i was advised it was the icv.I went to several specialists trying to solve this paying £70 approx a go. I eventually went back to the mapper who suprise suprise was able to fix the problem. Then charged me again for the priviledge.

The weird thing about mine is that it was doing it before the map and like you Dave have spent good money trying to solve the problem so can only assume it's an issue electronically. problem is that it is a long trek just to sort out a little annoying problem, I'm going to have to eventually bite the bullet and get it sorted but wonder if there are any improvements I can make before I go, quite happy power wise and can't justify spending money on a new turbo and injectors etc, any cost effective mods that might be worth wile before I take it for another map?

Ecu Specialist
If this is revving or holding up the revs between gear shifts then it does relate to ecu settings but not to the remap, the std settings that are pertinent make a car do this, when mapping I normally adjust these as a matter of course, its a known thing. Normally only manifests itself on a WRX as opposed to an STi.
The map settings involved are not visible when open source mapping, only when using Ecutek.
so don't spend money changing parts it won't really help
cheers

Ecu Specialist
Oh and Dave before you jump in, your car developed the fault when it was NOT a known issue, like I said not the fault of any mapper but the std ecu settings, and not easy to diagnose and find. I would also point out you went to everyone else for solutions before you actually came back to me about it.
Why is everyone so wise after the event ... lol

You said it was nothing to do with the mapping LOL.
Your mate in Ledbury couldnt help so what was i meant to do?It was only after you had heard i had been to several "specialists" you got in touch. LOL
What a coincidence it developed the fault as you were mapping.
