Default How to find out engine model ?

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is in the right area, but how do I know what engine model my engine is?
Was told it's a replaced engine and that rings true as the numbers are different.

The original was a 2001 WRX, was told it's now a sti type r engine, anyone know how I check if this is true? Engine pic below:

I thought the STi had a red intake manifold, that looks like a WRX

Thanks for your reply, the only thing is, it is running at 313bhp "safe", I was told they could get 330 or more if I wanted. How would this be done on a Wrx, the turbo's not uprated, so that doesn't seem to tie in. Also it's got the STI on the intercooler which confuses the situation. Thanks again for your input.

Mmmm WRX to Sti intercooler swap is very simple and easy to do.

as you say you're going to need theengine number to check.

On top of the block, just under where the intercooler goes to the intake manifold, there are two numbers. One of them is the engine number, the other is the crankcase number. I think the engine number is the one to the right as you are looking at it from the front. That would be the passenger side on a RHD vehicle.

Ah I think that's the individual number not the type though. :/

On the cam belt covers at the front, near the bottom middle there might be a small paper sticker with the engine code in it.

Chances are this isn't there or readable now though.

Thanks, you know what format they are meant to be in? I have found two six digit numbers, one with the letter A on front on the number.

It should read something like the vin plate engine code. eg. EJ20KDW7PR

I think the numbers you've found are numbers specific to that engine but not the id code?

What are the numbers?

The numbers/letters would have to be stamped on the block NOT on the heads or gearbox housing.

Thanks again, I can't find anything with codes like that.

On the block I found something with the first bit obscured somewhat but the rest is 25311921959 don't think this is of any use. The number on the right hand side of the block is A818376. Do you know if Subaru could give me the model if I called them with those numbers?
