Default Running rich, need remap?

Hi all,
Quick question, my hawk sti type uk is running rich...it has no mods bar ppp and decat, bell mouth down pipe.
Do you think this is the cause of it running rich?
If so does it need a remap?
Best place in Essex for this?
Thanks, Sam

Hi Sam

If yours car hasn't been mapped for those mods like decat and bell mouth dp can run rich, but still think in yours case this can cause overboosting issue too.

Best will be have car mapped for those mods at least

In yours area is Neil@Slowboy racing,he based just near Brands Hatch

Hi Jura,
I've just brought the car. The service history is huge but nothing for a remap, just the ppp certificate.
I took the prodrive back box off the other day and since then its guzzled fuel! About 40 miles to 1/4 tank!

Hi Sam

I would speak with Neil and he will diagnose the problem, but think yours O2 sensor can be damaged or faulty and now you are getting such low MPG

Usually if O2 sensor is faulty or damaged you are getting low MPG or smell of fuel(running rich)

You are fitted as well Decatted downpipe?

Or could it be the dump valve?
Noticed a hissing noise tonight at idle, when I pressed the clutch down it stopped.

Yes decat ninja pipe, bell moth dp and the rest prodrive.
The ecl came on the other day, diagnostics said sensor, cleared the fault and hasn't come back on.
As I'm going to be driving it as my every day car when I sell the blob me thinks I will have an over haul on it!

Hi Sam

Assume P0420 has come up as error?

If yes then is the O2 sensor, but in most cases this can be mapped out without the problem

Really speak with Neil

It's a bailey dv, again I took it off the other day too!
Yes that was the code! Think its because I nailed it hard in first, second, third and fourth to come off a lay by on a dual carriageway!
Will make some calls next week, but from what you are saying nothing serious really!
Thanks, Sam

Hi Sam

Bailey DV are notorious with leaking and not sealing properly, fit OE and if its budget and you want extra noise, have look for Forge DV

Not really, sometimes comes afterwards fitting the exhaust and sometimes comes after several days/weeks or just after remap

Its not serious, but still would keep off the boost until is sorted, you can suffer with higher MPG and few others issue

With the dv, if it wasn't sealed properly since I took it off, only clutch down would that stop the leak and in turn hissing?
Think I may change the whole exhaust system and then get it mapped and diagnosed

Hi Sam

Are you used gasket for DV or OE recirc,if not then this can cause leak.
Yes you can change exhaust, but you should be have no problems if you will be running off the boost until remap,I know is hard, but will worth it

It's a baileys DV attached to the inter cooler, blanking plate in black pipe.
I took it off the other day as was going to put my turbo smart one on.
Is it as simple as taking it off and realigning?
It's not my daily car yet so can merrily not use it or just poodle along in it!
Will see what I can sort tomorrow. Failing that early leave from work must be in order next week!

I just wouldnt drive this car (and as Jura says, run off boost) and thats when you take it to be checked out to see if its mapped, the new age STI's dont adapt well to decats and the 2.5ltr engine you have is really not one to mess with as the pistons are more "delicate" (that means crap) than the 2ltr cars that preceded it.

So get the car checked out, hopefully its been remapped and if it hasnt then it needs it doing before the engine lets go

As I said Sam,you will be OK for now, just drive off the boost until is this sorted

Usually on STI without the mapping and with decat exhaust, you can have problems with overboosting

I'm still driving the blob at the moment but I've had a serious offer on it so I think I have about a week to get it sorted!
Going to change the exhaust system over and then get it diagnosed and remapped
Never physically seen a fuel gage drop before!
