is it worth fitting a turbo timer to my classic?been told theyre a bad idea is this true?

IMO the biggest waste if time and money ever. Just drive off boost for the last 1-2 mins as you more than likely always will. Just a silly gimmick from the late 90's min my eyes. I actually have a snigger when I see them fitted into cars now.
