Default WRX Upgrade without Fuel Pump

Hoping someone can help!
Due to idiotic insurer, I can make the following mods to a standard 2007 hawkeye wrx sportwagon:

- Upgrade filters
- Uprade exhaust to SS and sports Cat
- Replace brakes
- Add sway bar
- EcuTek remap

BUT THEY REFUSE WHEN I ADD FUEL PUMP UPGRADE. DEFINATELY NOT HYBRID TURBO

It is for fast road and country lane use....how far can I go without the pump? Want to increase low rev torque and make it a really enjoyable drive. Get the feeling they are shafting me...but I am stuck with them for another 5 months.

So what is reliable and 'safe' power limit? Want to keep car is great condition for 5 years...hopefully

Thanks

my 03 wrx wagon standard fuel pump maxed out at 424bhp running 20% meth on a forged 2.5. with 650cc injectors.
This wasn't intentional of course, as I understood it had a walbro 255 pump in there, supposedly fitted and charged for by a tuner who now lives abroad, Germany I believe.
So absolutely no flow problem on standard injectors.

Thanks for reply. That sounds a lot more tuned than I will ever go. How long did you have it like that?

Since posting, I have read about issues regarding Ecutek remaps and. Standard fuel pumps........help?

Starting to think that 'would the insurer not pay up if I replaced a 6 year old fuel pump with an improved model'? Declared 5 mods and no problem, just don't get why fuel pump is a problem (understand why hydrid turbo is)

the fuel pump was 10years old and had run 340bhp for a couple of years, this with ecutek, before putting in a 2.5 short motor, initially with the standard ecu, never had fueling issues. The standard pump is a good bit of kit and personally I wouldn't consider changing it with standard injectors

If the std fuel pump is in "as new" condition then you will be ok with those mods, but if its got "tired" then it could have issues. I am amazed that an insurance company will countenance the mods you indicate but refuse a fuel pump, means they for sure do not have much experience of these cars.

If your fuel pump is failing then your mapper should pick up on that ( I would) so you can make the decision then.

cheers

That's a bit backward on the insurers part. It's only a fuel pump at the end of the day.

Have you spoken to them, to find out why you can't replace it?

For some reason there system links fuel pump to turbo, hence immediate rejection

Thank for advice. I have reached a decision on what to do so it is best that keep it as it is for the time being.

I bought it second hand, so for all I know it could have an uprated fuel pump in it and I am not aware of it..............

This is ridiculous, Just swap fuel pumps ,remove any markings that make it identifiable ( but I wouldn't )
Then in the event of a claim the only way it would come to light is if they flow tested the pump , and that is very very unlikely ,
And If they are gonna go to them lengths to avoid a pay out you're doomed anyway

The only immoral actions are the robbing b*stards that charge ludicrous premiums in the first place then try to avoid a pay out at all costs ( or a fair payout )
Got no time for em , with their random quote generator machine

Are you entering the fuel pump as the 6th mod? could it be that they are restricting you to only 5?

Don't think it's that......looked into it a bit more and anything to turbo upgrade is blocked by underwriters. Due to an anomaly in their system fuel pump is linked to turbos. 30% bhp increase seems to be threshold as well. I will stay with them for 18 months and then go down the specialised route

The original wrx ppp never changed the fuel pump and that isn't far from what you are doing so can't see a problem, although as a fuel pump only pumps fuel and doesn't add to performance I would never think of informing an insurer of this.
