Remapping worth it?
Ok i bought an x reg turbo 2000 as standard, ive added a dump valve, induction kit, decat 3" exhaust system and i have been having trouble with the turbo surging in 4th an 5th gear about 4k revs. I took it to a local garage who is a subaru owner himself, adjusted the boost and its a little better. He advised a remap due to the upgrades ive done. So i got a few quotes and i found it about £600 for the remap which will sort the problem and increase bhp. Is it worth spending this amount? Also im after upgrading to a higher rated fuel pump any advice? Thanks

The cost would be £540 inc vat if I did it.
As to its worth really its your thinking on that, if the problem is not resolvable any other way, and thats the only solution its then a do I or don't I scenario.
But the surging is down to your mods and you will be running the car in a way that the std ecu mapping cannot cope with, basically the wastegate solenoid duty's are too far away from those actually needed so the boost dynamics are causing oscillation in the higher boost areas.
Try drilling out the restrictor pill a bit to calm it down, you will probably run less boost at high rpms but the ecu will have more control.
cheers

When you consider the modifications you've already done, and the cost (as stated by Bob above) compared to the gains... for me it is (and was) a no-brainer.
My car is a '99 UK Wagon so similar to yours. After fitting a 3" decat, Walbro fuel pump (very important) and decent panel filter, Bob did his magic and got very impressive results; 284bhp and 317lbft of torque to be exact. Now for around £500 (maybe less if you buy an already mapped ECU licensed to him), he transformed the car. This isn't me kissing his **** either, he genuinely did transform the car and folk who were in it before and after mapping have said the same thing.
The 200 mile trip home (in the dark) was fun
