Sounds like the Prodrive ecu is the problem the hardware should be/is identical, its only the rom file thats different. If your original works and the replacement doesn't the replacement is the problem and is faulty

We are confused with conflicting info ( not hard )
From what we've been told
99/00 do not have coded ecu's
97/98 do
His car is 00 and we have a feeling the ecu is 98
Because the 00 doesn't have a coded ecu does that mean you can use a 98 coded ecu without the need to have the transponder chip done in the key

Hi,
If the car is MY99-00 its not coded, nor are the MY97-98's either I regularly swap ecu's around in cars. The ecu is fed a "turn on" signal from an external immobiliser unit it has no transponder in it. Only new age ecu's (MY01) onwards need to be coded to keys in that way.
A MY98 ecu will not fit or run a MY99 or MY00 car.
Don't forget how model years run, so a MY00 is from September 1999 to August 2000
A MY99 is from September 1998 to August 1999.
Just cos a car is registered in late 1998 does not make it a MY98 car iyswim. Its a MY99.
To be clear though what is the applied model code from the VIN plate and I will tell you exactly what the car is/was.
cheers

Cheers bob , I'll pass the info on tomorrow ( I work with the op )
I'm personally not 100% sure of the year of his car , just that its 99/00
But the fleabay description says , prodrive blah blah to fit 98 - 01
All I know is its a three plug same as his and he's plugged it in and it just cranked over so I take it even if it the same plug , a 98 ecu won't necessarily work in a 99/00 regardless of coding ?

Can now confirm the car is 00 going by the vin
And we are under the understanding the ecu from 97/98 car
The ecu is 3 plug as per the cars original ecu
So is this a no go full stop or would it be an ecu fault
The ecu p/n is 1001071011 - a18/000/d3h
Any help appreciated chaps

possibility 1 - The cars a ringer and is actually a jap car with uk identity
possibility 2 - It's a jap ecu with a uk ecu cover on it.
possibilty 3 - The ecu's dead
possibilty 4 - Do Prodrive remap Jap spec ecu's?
Try swapping the cam and crank sensor + signal wires over and bypass the fuel pump relay to see if it then starts.
The ecu code is incomplete, whats the big 2 digit code and the ae 800/801/802 number?

It's an 00 turbo 2000 , and the stock ecu that's in the car is the correct ecu for that car
3 x 32 pin plugs
Which if I understand correctly is the correct config for that year and model
The ecu purchased that is intended to be fitted to the car is also the same plug / pin config
I've no idea what you're going on about , ringer , jap or otherwise
Other than confusing the issue
