short ram induction
hi guys just a quick one. i have a 2001 bugeye wrx. does the wrx need mapping to put a short ram induction kit on.
some people tell me it does and some people say it does not as it only helps the engine breath better and the maf will adjust it ?
any advice would be great :0

It will screw with you're maf , and you won't gain anything
The car might run ok and it might adjust for the induction ,( enough to keep it safe )
Unless you're gonna be going for mega power you won't need one
IMHO better sticking with the air box and a quality panel filter

It won't strain the engine , they do have a reasonable ability to correct things like induction kits , ( enough to stop it destroying itself ) its just that you won't gain anything or make it run any better

Is it one of those that feeds air from inside the engine bay?
If so, think ACT temps as you'll be sucking in hot air and then letting the blower add even more to those temps before it goes through the IC for cooling....worth thinking about if one of those short intake jobs.

I have a induction kit on my bug STi but as I normally run with a GEMS ECU using a MAP sensor there is no issue. A couple of years ago I decided to get the standard ECU open source mapped so that if I had need to I could re-fit the OE ECU with out any worries. But the Lambda was so all over the place the mapper would not do it as he could not get steady reading. That was with a short ram induction kit. My understanding is that if you do want a induction kit you need the CAIK kits that put the airfilter under the wing so the air is less turbulent when it reaches the MAF sensor. Also the panle filter is good to around 400 bhp, You could remove the resinator lump from under the wing to allow a bit better arflow and could possibly have some induction noise.
