Default Ecutek vs open source

Could Somone explain the advantage of a professional mapper
Mapping a newage from scratch with ecutek as opposed o/s
I keep reading a million posts of folk saying ecutek and keep wondering why
Maybe I'm missing somthing ?

The main ones cited are:

Technical support, documentation.
Map definition consistency, accuracy and depth.
Model coverage.
Map contents confidentiality/protection.
Cable quality.

You know I'm probably playing devils advocate a little , John
I can get the confidentiality aspect , but that also requires the same from the mapper not just the software ?
Could you elaborate on the def aspect and also the cable ?

On older MY01-02 via EcuTek is not available switchable fuel map(only switchable boost),Launch control,ALS plus you can't delete some errors like EGT etc.

Our wagon has been mapped via OS before and after that Syvecs S6 PnP has been our choice(now is Syvecs S8)

Our wagon never been mapped via EcuTek

I see what you mean now mate
You were saying that the older ecutek for 01/2 doesn't have full map switching
( not that you were using it )

I think ?

As I said older UK/EUDM/USDM MY01-02 you can't have full map switching, only on JDM(via MegaROM) and on newer DBW(RaceRom I think)

So it seems o/s could possibly have more features than the basic / older ecutek ?

In my view yes,if you are looking at Nasioc most people switched from EcuTek to the CarBerry ROM or AP/Cobb etc

OE ECU is good, but OE ECU not allowing you run some features which have Syvecs or other aftermarket ECU

We are went with Syvecs, because this ECU has been best at this time and still is it for money(yes MoTeC is daddy, but cost few times more than Syvecs)

Inputs/Outputs on Syvecs will/can allow you lots, like sensors for Fuel pressure, oil pressure, oil temp,EGT etc and trips(limp mode) for those sensors, main thing is you don't need any controller for Wideband or EGT and NOS control without going for expensive progressive controller and lots of other features

Ive been running carberry for a fair few miles now and can't fault it

Which is why I asked the question , why ecutek vs o/s

I know John as answered but to be fair the reasons cited are not reasons that will really benefit the end user
Tbh how many guys on here care about map confidentiality or tech support ect
All they know is they pay there money to a mapper
And is the car producing good power / is it smoother delivery / good torque ect

So will the end user get a better driving / more power ect by using ecutek ?

Can os be mapped on the go "live map" like the syvecs does or is it the same as EcuTek where you have to stop and upload the map with each alteration?

O/s is not live mapping , tbh I thought the provision for live mapping lies more on the hardware rather than the software

Cheers mate , it does go on a little ( don't they all )

So it seems the concerns about o/s software being beta and maybe full of bugs and glitches was a good few years ago
I think it's pretty safe to say its proven now

It seems that the use of o/s has been more of an ethical ( financial issue in favour of ecutek) rather than sub standard software

So there are no real differences at the end of the day

Famous last words, Tony.

Issues still exist now, IIRC. It's rare that I delve into the OS forums, but, I think there was an issue still with the speed density ROM. I could be wrong though.

I've been running s/d for the last 4k miles no issues so far

Once the rom is in , mapped and performing how you want I can't see what issues you can have , it's not like milk ( not gonna off all of a sudden )

But this is off topic really

Why is ecutek better than o/s ( what advantages for the customer ? )
