Default Ecutek updates possible?

Hi all
Ive got a Forester Sti ecu with the Ecutek lincence on can it be updated? , i had the ecu in the car untill 2016 when i fitted a link G4+.

The ecu is unlocked iirc and now a friend wants to buy it. Is it worth him buying it or is he better off getting an open source map from say FB tuning

He has Exactly the same year and model of car, cheers for reading

yes if its been previously mapped with ECUTek then the license will still be on there unless someone has removed it so he'll be able to use the ECU and go to any ecutek tuner to get his car mapped with it.

Do think its worth it over open source, and cheers for answering.
