Default Engine tuner GTX2971R turbo

Hi everyone I thought I would make this thread too add some information about the above turbo for a good 400+ bhp turbo at an ok price.

Bit of background I had a stock blobeye sti with a 3inch decat that was remapped to about 350bhp but I went looking for more. With the help of Alan and Martyn at engine tuner I added a few parts to bring my car to a little over 400bhp while still on the top mount.

Parts list
750cc fuji racing injector
340lph fuji racing fuel pump
unequal length fuji racing headers
3 port boost solenoid
Gtx2971r billet turbo

Total cost including labour £4000 give or take £10
Can give exact prices if people really want it aswell as a break down.

SInce adding these parts the car feels so much quicker and once the turbo spools at around 4200rpm you are moving very quickly I hope to test the car at santa pod during the spring and with any luck Ill have a front mount and induction kit so I can run a bit more power for longer on the power band.

Regards Akram

p.s. if anyone has some questions about my setup ill try to answer them as best I can.

Thats some nice power it must be quite nippy now...but the top mount will be close to being inefficient,a front mount will keep things cooler though.SJ.

I am planning on using that turbo with the second phase of my 2.5 Engine tuner build as it was recommended by them. Good to see some real world feedback on it

Hi, so does it feel more laggy with the new set-up? Comparing the graphs there seems to be a little at the lower revs but then you're away!

its a little more laggy than the stock turbo I get 1.5 bar boost about 4300 rpm and then am moving pretty rapidly on the 2.5 should spool even faster I have a front mount now aswell and cant notice any difference in spool

Cool, thanks, that's helpful as I'm looking at options myself. A set up like that sounds sweet, I think 400 horses is all I'd ever want for an Impreza. Either that or some stock turbo hybrid set up. It's just a trade off of a bit more power or a bit faster spool I guess..
DId you consider a trick up pipe to get quicker spool up?

I thought 400 would be enough for me but after a while went for a bit more and now want more than that just really whatever budget will allow I never thought I needed the harvey trick up pipe cause full boost by about 4500 isnt too bad for me cause my power pretty much carries to 7k so once im moving quickly ill pretty much always be in peak power and if I really need to move fast from a standstill have LC so for me quick spool is nice to have but im not sure if for me its worth it even if say spool dropped by say 500 rpm as my car already has instant throttle response at the right rpm

Yeah, sounds good. I guess it's down to preference and driving style. I like that you have to work to extract performance from an impreza, like downshifting at the right moment etc..it's part of the fun. Thanks for the input!

How’s are you finding things now it’s been 3 months? I’m also looking at the 2971r turbo but just not sure if it’s the right one For me? How does it compare to standard in regards to spool noise and power delivery? The last one I bought was quieter than stock and felt a bit laggy at lower revs but I did gain about 100hp over standard.

I know that H& S have had some bad press, I've never had an issue though and have always found Ian really responsive and helpful.
On the car I mentioned above, the Janspeed headers blew the welds after their first dyno session and H&S welded them up and reinforced all the welds too.

I've just fitted FGK equal length headers, so I think I'm going to up the boost.
