I ran a Mines ECU on my 1995 wrx, never missed a beat, and pulled like a train.

A fellow county down man , nice !

Youre best bet will be an ESL daughterboard, can sort you out with a real top mapper too if you need

My '93 WRX (originally with a w6 ecu) is running a z4 - it's totally transformed it, to the point where I've scrapped any further power-extracting plans!

I've always run it on V-power, but then I did so before swapping from the w6.

Feels like 2003 in here

Z4 would be just about ok on an otherwise standard car on 97 and was from the 94/95 WRX with 260 PS.

Shouldn’t really run a decat on it though - if you’re going to modify at all, then spend the money for an ESL chip and map and a safe circa 300 bhp.

as above, it will likely run OK but best bet for the future would be an ESL board fitted and mapped. If you still have your old ECU the ESL can be fitted to that meaning less downtime.

you would rather have a generic chip than a tailored map?
doesnt make a lot of sense to be honest.

It's the price, polar chip gets great reviews at a fraction of the cost,if I wanted maximum power I'd get it mapped at an expense of £650/£700 which I'd rather put into getting the car sprayed

I will be,if I wanted to pay the cash for a custom map id probably take it to a place in belfast Gsport as he is very good at the mapping but from what I've researched the polar chip will do exactly what I want at a fraction of the cost, just finished reading threw ur thread, that company just up road from me
