Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of having an ECUTEK3 remap?
I have no idea where to start with this, and want to be aware what the pitfalls might be.. Im look gto buy in the new year and have already seen some lovely motors with the remap, but I have also seen posts warning against car with remaps.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Had a decat downpipe and EcuTek3 custom remap done by EMS over here in Holland.
Upside : Smoother and much more powerful. Power band much wider (4th gear boost > 1.0bar 2600 - 5500)
Downside: Higher fuel consumption (more power comes at a price)

Standard map on an ecu is for the mass market and not really customised for your car. Some engines react to the standard map in different ways to other engines. It is always better to have a map that is made for your car. People always comment on how different their car feels much smoother and more often than not an increase in fuel economy.
If you are thinking of modifying the car at some stage eg, exhaust, decat pipe, intercooler turbo etc then its a must to go for the tek2 or 3.

The only 'con' there is with nearly any ECU replacement (or remap of the oem ECU as well now) is if the mapper isn't very good! AFAIK, there are only quality mappers for the Tek3, so there should't be any problems.

Thanks John - you know I would have used you, but would have to trailer the car up there (I would be too tempted to abandon the trailer and come back down at warp speed though)
