Default Mapppers guide to fuel?

Hi all

This is a question to all of the mappers.
What is your standard fuel preference?
What difference between fuel do you see and what does this mean in real term's?

We all know to use good fuel but it would be good to know why etc. I'm sure alot of people would find it useful.

Higher the Ron rating=higher the det threshold, means you can run more timing which makes for a bigger bang=more power.
That's my take on it anyway.

Fuel brands would be good to see, what's good what's not, they use different additives do it make a difference?

Irrespective of the brand etc, lack of consistency is the main problem with pump fuel.

Ok here's a spanner to throw in.

Seeing that winter petroleum has different volatility properties to summer petroleum (they have different vapour pressures), should we take that into consideration when using a car mapped on summer fuel and using it with winter fuel...

Some brands also have intermediate Spring and Autumn grades too.

(Example Data sheet just to show what I'm on about: http://www.hallfuels.co.uk/media/669...c%20Sheet.docx)

Apparently the dates for changing volatility limits are a legal requirement?

Edit: if anyone can get a current data sheet for UK spec Shell nitro+ I'd like to see it. I would like to know its ethanol content (v-power used to range from 0% to 5%).

Exactly why I put the thread up so much importance on the fuel it would be good to get the mappers views etc.

Mapping my car during winter I found fuelling to be the main reason for det , I had to richen it up even tho I didn't have to with same mods during summer so I'd say yes the weather does make a difference , but when I asked a mapper this question once they said no , the weather doesn't alter things , go figure

when you were retuning for winter though is that somethign that could've been resolved with IAT based comps to take account of lower intake temps? I've noticed a change in summer/winter blend in NI to be fair but the difference seems to be quite small maybe 2 degrees of timing to make it happy again. Assuming you don't run too close to the knock threshold then the car would run fine winter/summer and anything in between.
