Default Might Ditch ESL for Alcatek ...

So, having a V2 and ESL not supporting A/L and probably never will , might get rid of ESL and move onto Alcatek

So , is Alcatek a license ECU as if I bought 2nd hand would I be able to self Map and if so , is it via cable like ESL or dongle etc?

Cheers

I wouldn't.... Although it ran well after a lot of faffing about it's still an over hyped ECU. Anti w@nk is pointless and frankly prematurely ages your cooling system and other related parts. I know from experience. Launch control is cool but will kill your gearbox unless uprated, again I know from experience.. ESL is the best imho for most normal applications, it's what I will be putting on my new V2

Currently having this debate with myself for a UK2000 that will one day be a gravel rally car running the mandatory 34mm restrictor

ALS and launch are 'gimmicks' unless you have built the car to use them properly and as it's going to be a clubman/budget car probably not worthy of the extra cash

I wouldn't bother unless you are doing it for a worth while reason such as running avcs heads and wideband control.
The Esl is a great ecu upgrade and can deal with most situations bar a few.
I went from Esl to alcatek myself for the reasons listed above.

The alcatek is great and more than easy enough to work with though if you have a problem getting hold of Andy is like trying to catch a unicorn, not a problem you'll have with Andrew Stevens who always answers the phone no matter what time a call.
Wether it's for an order or a software question.

this is the problem esl will never release the motorsport pack for the 92-96 impreza even though it has been promised for years, i wonder how many people people jumped the gun and bought the board for the 92-96 impreza's and still living in false hope of the motorsport pack.

Alcatek ECU is a huge leap forward compared to a faffed about with and rehashed OE ecu in my experience. We've successfully tuned them for over 10 years now and had a large influence in a lot of the features that now exist in them.

From personal experience, the Alcatek is very good, my cat ran loads better on this then it did the standard ecu.
Personally I know nothing about ESL so can't really comment.
What I will say is, try look down the road and see where your going with the car,
Had I have done this from the off, I would have gone with the syvecs in the first place

Martyn, I'm curious;

As you have exactly zero experience with ESL, what OE system are you referring to?

When you asked me if you could be an ESL distributor, you mentioned you had experience with Ecutek. Is that the "faffed and rehashed OE ecu" you mean? Is Mervyn aware that is what you think of the excellent OE ECU?

I had one of the first Simteks which was 8 years ago, so over 10 years ago I bet they were even worse

Can't see the big deal.. I've got ESL on my V2 RA and I couldn't give a toss about the motorsports pack.

I've had lag and launch on previous cars, they are nothing but a gimmick that you soon get bored of.

Andy, will text you in a bit chap. Been flat out and totally slipped my mind. Ta.

Well after a bit of research I will stick with the ESL due to the good after sales service , even tho I won't have Antilag on my car is rather an ecu I can manage myself rather a hard yo reach support person at Alcatek .

Cheers all

The fact that I choose not to tune them doesn't mean I have no experience of them. I've had plenty of cars on my dyno mapped by other tuners running ESL boards over the years, I'm bound to really aren't I ?

As for what Mervyn thinks, as they have never and will never support the early ecus, I doubt he cares one jot what I think of them.
