ESL would be my choice,I have this on my v3 sti and works a treat.
I'm sure both alcatek and ESL are both good but I choose to DIY map so it's ESL all the way for me

ESL isnt bad, had one before the alkatec, not sure you can have ALS and Launch tho on them? DIY map is fine if you know how to do it, although theres support available. Isnt there a course coming up aswell?

The course was on Tue this week,I missed out but next one is 15th march so might be up for that one.
I have ALS and LC they're just 2 of the many features available on ESL although I don't think they're available for v1/2 yet.

One thing to be aware of is alkatec does not have a native diagnostic facility like ESL, so if a sensor goes down you will be in the dark. Also ESL base maps are OEM with factory idle and temperature and start compensations. Motorsports functions for v3/4 are more comprehensive on ESL. As mentioned above, courses are available for ESL if you wish to learn to DIY.

Yes the ESL fits inside the standard oem ECU,you can fit it in yourself, send it off to Andy or get one of the mappers to do this for you.
Have a look on their website enduring solutions, there's some good info including user manual on there

Yes we need a stock ECU to modify. You should have been given it back when you went aftermarket.

We can sort something out if it is missing, the JECs ECUs on their own don't have much intrinsic value prior to the ESL upgrade.

Jonny, I have a spare 6s ECU, non ESL at the moment if you require one.

I also have ESL on my v3 type R. Bear in mind that once pro mapped the files/maps are not locked so you can make changes after.

Another great advantage to having ESL,no locking of the map ^^^
And even if you don't fancy DIY mapping, get the cable as you can just plug into your laptop/tablet to do some data logging and even have some live data on display while you are driving.
Like Andy said,it also retains the factory fault code reader should you ever need it
