Prodrive is not an ecu, its mapped by prodrive it usually has a ppp sticker on them.

Ok so it's a standard Ecu remapped then so guess there is no real way of knowing if buying one second hand.

Wont know unless the seller is honest that it has the prodrive(ppp) map on it.

your mapper can tell if you if it's still got the prodrive software fingerprint on it - usually a genuine prodrive ECU will have the fingerprint on it and ECUtek software can confirm this for you. Alternatively just have your current ECU mapped to suit, that way you won't have to get the immobiliser/key reprogrammed

I fitted a Blob WRX ECU from a PPP car to my wagon, it didn't have anything on the casing to say it had a Prodrive map on it. All I had was the Prodrive certificate that came with it and the corresponding key chip reader and immobiliser box. It was only until I had fitted it and checked that the boost pressure maxed at 1.3bar (up from 1bar standard), as well as the fact that it drove like a factory map (i.e. no flat spots) but with more power, that I was confident it was genuine.

I don't know how the PPP kits were supplied to the dealers for fitting, but if they just uploaded the ECUTek map via the OBD port then I can't see them lifting the carpet, removing the kick plate and putting a PPP sticker on the ECU. It would be a different matter if they physically fitted a replacement ECU with the Prodrive map on though, then you might see a sticker.

PS early bug (and Classic) Prodrive ECUs I believe, had a piggy back ECUTek board installed to the main board inside the casing, so you might see a sticker in that case.
