TD05/06 20G/16G?
Hey guys,
done a lot of research on turbos in general and most posts give good information but not quite what I need.
I'm looking to go somewhere around 400HP with my 98 V4 Subaru WRX STI (J-spec). I'm currently at around 320HP after my Race Dynamix remap on the vf24.
My question is.. Should I go for a TD05 or a TD06? 16g 20g? and would I need to get a rotation kit?
Also, what upgrades do I certainly need with this? Will my engine even be able to handle it? I've got my injectors and fuel pump done. Unfortunately I am not 100% sure if internals are forged (had a rebuild 5 years ago). Obviously I'd get another remap afterwards.
Thanks!
Nico

A TD06 will take a calender to descride how the spoolup is.
I have a billet TD05 20G with modified turbine and even that is laggy ah on a ej20.
16G wont get you 400hp. it will be stuck on 330hp.
for a 20G you will again need bigger injectors (550cc to 380hp, 400hp needs around 640.
Stock block will not handle 20G.
Also the powerband will be more to the right, so a higher rev limit so its alot better drivable.
Rotated isnt necesary for 400hp.. after 500+ it becomes a different story.
Gearbox would need to be changed too. (6 spd or very strong 5 spd)
Intercooler must be bigger. (fmic or big tmic).

400hp is a difficult and expensive target, high 300's is far more achiveable and more importantly more drivable and easier to live with.
I have a modified evo3 BIG 16g, which delivers 353bhp, I am expecting more with a change to billet compressor wheel.
big16g and 18g would be a good (similar) choice for mid to high 300's.

I go what Boosted said... i wanted twice the original power in my car, (2x211hp), but has been proven ridiculously more expensive than a ''close to 400'' number...
TD05 with 7cm turbine housing and an 18G compressor will spool good on a 2 liter.. at about 3400rpm 1 bar.
