99 WRX STI power gains?
Hey guys! Just bought my first Subaru, a 1999 Subaru WRX STI GC8! The car is pretty much bone stock and in near mint condition. It's an import with an EJ207, (to my knowledge, if I've done my research correctly all the 99 STI's had 207's) and I've been reading that they make around 300hp even though its labeled at "276" from the gentleman's agreement. Curious as to if this claim is accurate or not? I was also wondering if there were some easy, inexpensive ways to gain a couple more horses. New to the whole Subaru scene as I've always been a Nissan guy, love the car a ton already. If anyone has a ton of knowledge on the GC8's I'd love to hear what you have to say! Any helpful tips on mods or even some further info on the jdm version of the car would be great! e.g, are usdm parts compatible with the jdm version? etc. Thanks a ton!

First thing is get it given a once over by a specialist and a run on a dyno make sure all is ok.
My type R made 220bhp when i got it and turned out engine was worn out and needed a rebuild 3k later.

I'm not sure about the standard power but expect it is slightly less over here considering we don't have 100 octane fuel.
I've just had my version 5 (99) type R remaped by Andy Forrest with just the basic mods and made 344bhp and 321LbFt.
His website will give you a good estimate on tuning, mine was as level 2 but with STi8 intercooler + ported headers from AS performance.
If you are wanting higher then both the turbo + injectors will need upgraded

Before anything else, get it remapped for the fuel you have available, as they come mapped for 100 RON jap fuel and have fairly lairy ignition timing. They are prone to detonation on lower quality fuel. The main issue is the ECU stops listening to the knock sensor at about 5000 RPM, and just applies the ignition map timing, so no fail safe (below that level the ECU retards timing, adds fuel and can cut boost if detonates).
