STI engine with WRX ecu
As some of you know I bought a 2005 WRX that's just had an STI forged engine conversion, the guy who I bought it of said it's still using the WRX ecu and is running around 270-280 BHP, Now my question is: should I buy and STI ecu or will the WRX one be capable of producing 400bhp+ After mapping and a few mods? The car already has a 3" full exhaust system and bigger tmic, cold air feed cone filter. I'm not sure nor is the previous owner what injectors it's running on?

Does the engine have the STi heads, with AVCS? If so, the WRX ECU won't be able to drive them, nor will your WRX have the wiring for AVCS. The wiring can be sorted but without the STi ECU you will not be able to get the AVCS working.
Other than that, I would expect that the WRX ECU is more than capable of being mapped to produce the power you want, given an appropriate turbo/injectors/etc.

As above Tim said,if you will be running AVCS heads on yours car your AVCS will be running in retarded position which I don't think will make big difference from existing WRX heads, although STI cams are bit more aggressive than WRX which are pretty mild cams
You will see how you get on,but if budget allows then I would go with STI ECU and custom AVCS loom from Tim
Thanks,Jura
