Remap next week, noticeable difference?
Hi guys,
Finally booked my car in for a remap next Friday. I'm also having a couple of bits upgraded as well, hence the remap. Going for a decat up pipe, sports cat down pipe, panel filter and uprated fuel pump. I already have a Milltek cat back in place.
I don't know why, but I'm a bit nervous about it! Fingers crossed everything goes well. Will I notice much of a difference from 225ish to 2XX bhp?

Tidgy, it really makes that much difference?! I'm not sure who is mapping it.... I'm using TFS Racing in Aldershot to do the work and they used to use Simon (god rest his soul) for mapping. They use someone else now but I can't remember who's name they said.
Shreksta, thanks for that! now I'm even more concerned!! lol.

I have a 22mm Whiteline ARB fitted on the rear and have got some Godspeed grooved disks and kevlar pads waiting to go on the car
Thanks to everyone else for the comments, I'm still a little nervous though! I'll keep you posted next week...

Ok, that probably wasn't the best thing for me to watch!!! Lol.
Can someone explain what exactly happens when doing a remap? How long does it take to do?

It takes as long as it takes, prob 2-3 hours if its quick, could take 4 if it doesnt play ball. anyone doing 8 cars a day is not spending the time it needs to be done properly.
A base map with low boost, no timing advance and decent amount of fuel is applied, they run the car on the dyno, change some of the settings and run it again. Boost, fuel and timing are then gradualy increased bit by bit until its at a decent level, all the time checing sensor out puts and listening for det.
One thing to avoid is people promising figures, all cars are different and achieve different figures, a decent mapper will take it to the point they are happy with how its running not an arbitrary figure.

agree with tidgy on the figures,i was told mine wouldnt make over 325bhp ish but it went and made 354bhp
im only winding you up with the vids BUT things can happen, the wrx isnt the strongest motor out there as i found out when my bottom end went-its
once the dyno time has finished a decent mapper should sign it off with a road test/tweak

I actually now get excited when ive got a session on the rollers booked, as the drive home always puts a big smile on my face . Mines been on 3 times now in 4 months and going on again in another few weeks. I like to hear what it sounds like on full chat and watch the huge fireballs coming out the back lol.
One thing that really caught my attention is how bright glowing red the up pipe gets after a couple of hard runs. I was a little nervous on the initial first mapping after the major mods were done but i now see it as safer than blasting it up the road as i do everyday as all the engine parameters are constantly being monitored by somebody very experienced in their field....
You will notice a massive difference mate and will feel like a completely different car and the best bang for bucks mod you will do

Try and source an STI Top mount and 290-300 may be on the cards.

Thanks again for all the comments guys. I didn't realise that it takes that long to map, I thought it would only take an hour or so! I was going to get them to change the oils and possibly spark plugs as well before it goes for mapping, is this a good idea, or is it better to map with slightly used/run in oil rather than fresh? I think I need to speak to the garage again and see if I can get hold of the mapper.
This is probably going to sound stupid to you experts, but I don't know what boost I want to be running. Nothing too crazy, I don't want to kill the car.
If all goes well I'm looking forward to seeing how different the car is on the drive home!

Cool. In which cas emy estimate would be around 280bhp once mapped.
You may not need to change the TMIC to an STI one if you are staying with the TD04 turbo. WRX TMIC should be fine for what you're after.
May want to consider an uprated fuel pump like the walbro 255 as a safe measure.

280 would be nice, but I wont get my hopes up. I'll just see what happens on the day
I wont be changing the turbo anytime soon (he says!), so I'll leave the STI top mount for now. Getting the fuel pump fitted along with the other bits in my first post
