Default Will I need to upgrade my MAP sensor?

I'm going to be having my Alcatek fitted to my 99 UK turbo soon, and plan to run MAFFless and quite a bit of boost..

I've heard of a 3 bar map sensor, but I'm not entirely sure what my car will have as standard?

If I do need to get another one, could someone post a link of exactly what I need to get please.

Cheers.

Hi there

I would suspect you will need one 3bar MAP sensor, not sure what is standard on 99 UK turbo,I know JDM STI 01 onwards has have best OE sensor which can read up to 1.55-1.6bar

Please speak with Tim@JT Innovations I'm sure have few in stock,if not yours mapper can have too in stock or you can have look over on eBay and check for Omni 3bar MAP sensors or you can have look for cheaper GM 3 bar MAP sensor,we are run this map sensor on our wagon, with GM 3 bar MAP sensor is not straight forward fitting, but yours mapper should be OK to wire it

Thanks,Jura

What boost do you plan to run? IIRC the stock sensor in a '99 is a 2.78 bar (absolute) device, meaning 1.5-1.6 bar boost is the sensible limit.

If you plan to run more than that, a 3 bar will allow around 1.9 bar boost.

3bar would still be ok to run 2bar,its when your getting into mapping 2.1/2.3 bar upwards that a 4 bar sensor would really be needed,as you lose 1 bar atmospheric pressure,so subtract a bar from each to get your maximum road boost pressure.SJ.

Just take your time getting use to your new found power,or it could all end in tears,i have been driving modified turbocharged cars in one form or another for 25 years so can tell you from experience its a lot of power to control make sure that you have all supporting mods to match and the road to let off on and you should be fine, think sensibly and your car should stay in one piece, thats why with my own car project it will be spending 99% of its time on a track as that is what its being built for, plus i know what i can be like with power under my right foot and a unsuspected super car driver thinking he can testits all good fun though just have respect for the Subaru Power.SJ.

Yeah, it's not going to be my daily, and the chassis is pretty sorted already.

I'm building it for drag this coming year, and maybe some track use the year after that.
