Tune ideas to increase spool up
I found some info saying that subaru's maps have a lot of timing low down to keep emissions and turbo not spooled up for fuel efficiency. Dunno if its rubbish or not.
But logic is saying retarding a bit of timing at spool up should put more heat/energy into the turbo to help spool?
I am currently running around 27-30 degrees at spool up...seems like too much!?
making 1.5 bar at 4500rpm on a Ej20K with a billet td05-20G
Can anyone shed any light?!

Retarded timing can increase spool but give a loss of torque. Depends on the installation. Every time I fitted a new turbo I could tell even before the map was tweaked whether it was a spooler or not, mapping is icing on the cake. Dyno spool is not often real world relevant, various tricks to make it look good/bad.
The answer for me was to change the WG actuator to one that started to open at a higher pressure.
Also don't use FMIC or larger TMIC until you need one for the other mods , as the extra volume of the intercooler and its feed pipes still have to be compressed , hence more lag.
