Default Is my car mapped?

Evening all! Hope we have all been enjoying this sun and working on the Scoobaru's!

Just a quick one, when i bought the car I was told it had been remapped, but the owner had no proof.

I've had a look around and I cant find a standalone ECU that could have been mapped onto, as if I'm right you cannot map standard pre-1998 ECU's?

Is there a way to check if it has been mapped and had a different ECU fitted without taking it to a mapper and it getting plugged in?

I'd start by seeing what ecu is fitted.

I don't suppose there is a list anywhere of what ones will fit and could be mapped?

Your best bet is to remove it and open it up to see what's inside, if you have any doubts about it being modified with a chip or daughter board post some pics up.

You can live map pre 98 ECUs with an ESL board.

thought 97-98 can be live mapped with an esl board as these are the ecu's that can not be mapped/chipped standalone.

same story with mine was men't to have all the bells and whistles but in fact it is a standard 98 ppp car which i'm happy with.

Ahh ok fingers crossed then! I'm guessing an ESL board if a good thing? Not really clued up on Subarus still! If it is mapped its pretty rubbish and the car bogs down alot :/

If the owner didn't have proof then it almost certainly hasn't been remapped. The difference between a standard car and a remapped one is pretty huge.

So I finally had the chance to get my ECU out and have a look. I'm not sure what it's supposed to have standard but it has an 8S in it. The ECU has been out before and it was missing 1 screw to hold the plate cover on, a nut that hold it in place and 2 of the small screws that go into the sir to hold the cover on. A picture of inside if it makes a difference. Also I have this crazy long wire buy the ecru aswell, anyone know what it is?

Cant help with the long wire query etc but it certainly doesnt have any mappable boards inside it, see all those small solder dots at the bottom of the aECU, thats where the daughter board would be installed

I'm sure that long wire goes to the alarm ecu from the ultrasonic sensors on the a-pillar. Someone must have messed with the alarm too as it should be plugged in.
