Does the ECU need Vehicle Speed sonsor?
Hi i have a 2001 STI JDM engine in a VW.
Do i need to hook up the VSS or can the wire be unplugged (open circuit) and the ECU will still run the engine only.?
I cant seem to find any info anywhere....im not running clocks etc i assume the VSS only provides dial/gauges speed?
any help would be mega!

The ecu needs the speed sensor input to function correctly, so you need to find a way of providing that in the correct pulse configuration .. it doesn't need to be true speed as long as its a value, assuming you are getting the car mapped then the mapper can correlate the ecu readings to the actual speed and set up the relevant maps accordingly

Hi thanks for your reply, I have an option to go off a 44tooth ring on the abs sensor drive shaft. But believe the impreza needs a 4 tooth ring. I assume giving the ecu 11 times the signal won't work. As it would see 11times the signal in any 1 drive shaft rotation.
I'm wondering of I could get a abs ring that is 4 tooth? Or fill in the holes that I have.
