Hi all picking your brains here,

For some strange reason my car has started throwing up the CEL when i start it up in the mornings and soon after driving (5/10 mins), but if i go out in the car the same afternoon it doesnt flash up

The car still runs fine, no hesatation with anything, i know this posts a bit vague but i was wondering if anyone else had similar problems

Cheers

Itll be the knock sensor.

But plug in connectors below steering column and read the code to confirm.

Sorry to sound dumb here but is that bad news (engine rebuild) or am i over reacting?
Does the knock sensor mean there is something really wrong with it or could the sensor just be on the way out?

I don't know much but I think it means the knock sensor is failing. Did you connect the green connectors under the steering wheel? Did it confirm an error code? I used this link to check mine recently and had no errors. Hope it helps

Yes just knock sensor issue rather than engine issue if code confirms its knock sensor

Handy enough to change, just make sure you get one for my99/00 cars as the plug connectors differ
