Hello all,

I am a little confused by the way my car handles, a MY06 Spec C with DCCD.

I am keeping the DCCD in auto mode for the moment until I get more used to it.

It just doesn't seem to handle the same as other AWD cars I have owned.

Is there any information available on how to drive with the DCCD?

Ive read a couple of threads there, still not sure on the best technique, suppose I just better get on the track sooner rather than later.

You have just answered your own question, If your going to track the car you will find exactly the characteristic's of the handling first hand so have a play and try all the settings, dont forget simple things like tyre pressures as this can also have a huge difference with handling. enjoy

Agree with greatgonzo and definitely have a play about with it. We had some fun on the South Bank car park at Brands Hatch on Sunday waiting for the queues to die down out of the BTCC. Great fun!

I learnt more about my cars performance in two track sessions than I did in two years on the road...

I've never held my car in a powerslide falt in third gear on the road, but on track it's relatively safe...

P.S. I now have a Hawkeye DCCD gearbox fitted to mine, and the torque split will take some getting used to... lift off oversteer wasn't there before !

What other handling mods does your car have ? if you have changed the rear or front ARB's messing with the DCCD will be a different experience to stock

Mainly auto for the road
First Orange light up for track as kerbs play havoc with DCCD
Second orange light up for damp
Fully open (green) for big snowy carparks )
Fully locked for snow/ice

Hi,

I've got a UK MY05 STI with DCCD. I've also got Whiteline ARBs and BC coilovers.

To be honest, on the road it's hard to detect a huge difference when playing with the DCCD settings unless you are really behaving like a hooligan which isn't a particularly good idea.

The track is a different story. On the limit, the smallest adjustment to the centre diff can make a very tangible difference. A guy I spoke to advised me to leave the DCCD fully open for the track but I found I was just oversteering everywhere (fun, but tyres don't last long). After I got bored of peering through the side window to figure out where I was heading, and after my passenger had thrown up twice, I put it back in Auto mode. The handling was much more neutral and I was MUCH quicker than before.

My experience, therefore, is that unless you are a very gifted driver (not many of us are) the car will be a much better driver than you! In Auto mode the DCCD can make necessary adjustments incredibly quickly and deal with any under- or over-steer. DCCD is alot of fun and helps you become a better driver, but if you want to be quick, Auto all the way!

I must say, i tend to leave in auto these days on the track and let the car decide how proceed. Fully open is fun but not as quick.

I am still playing with mine, i find that even with it open, car isnt as over-steery as my old type R with DCCD.

Having never tracked my car the only difference I ever notice is fully open makes less noise! I find it a bit of a pain in the *** to be honest!

Car do a lot of trackdays, for the start I used auto on track, just to learn the car. After a few trackdays I only use fully open on tracks, as car is much more stable and only slightly over-steer. Much more easy to control with lift of over-steer when in open. I do not have a problem with too much over-steer as some of you mention.
