strut braces help to stiffen the car up, as said above they should help if part of a number of mods but on their own wont make a huge difference to the handling

I'm a ham fisted monkey, and I couldn't tell the difference.

dunx

P.S. At least I was honest, a rear brace in a wagon should help.

arent the rear braces cut out a bit on the wagon to clear the speakers???

Dazza is correct, If you have a prefacelift wagon you need a moon shaped bracket. I will try and find some pics to help.

You choose your sources well

Here are the pics. Does present problems with reattaching the speaker cover as the depth of the brace raises the bracket so it will not close without a little bracket surgery. I just junked them as they were crap anyway

^^^

I think it should help, as instead of having an open 'U' he now has a closed box, IYSWIM..? It has to be better, more rigid with less lateral movement between the top of the rear strut towers..? Less /\ & \/..?

If that's pointless, why do the spec c's have a much shorter brace at the front of the boot floor..? Now that does seem a strange place for a brace..!

Simple, that 5mm plate will stop no movement. Now if you want to do a proper job weld a bar between the turrets.

This is how to do it,

i think theres a difference between a mk 1 or mk2 escort front strut rally brace and the rear of a classic estate .also the bar is not welded between the struts, the brackets are welded on to the McPherson strut tops and the bar is then bolted between them. this is a typical Ford ex-works modification which we used to use on our Mk 1 and Mk 2 rally cars. Also if you care to notice the front inner wings have the gusset welded in between the front chassis legs and the bulkhead. If you want to know any more about strengthening bodyshells, don't hesitate to ask.

Cheers, Geo
