Default Best way to launch my 04 WRX.

Hi there. My 04 WRX is the first 4WD I have ever owned and I am not sure of the best to launch it. My previous car ( a S13 200SX ) was pretty easy to get off the line as it would break traction so I knew I wasn't really giving the clutch or drivetrain to much of a hard time. What's the best and most sympathetic way to boot it ? I got out dragged by a Cupra R the other day as I bogged down !!

Cheers,

Wilky.

4.5 k drop the clutch. Not particularly car friendly, however.

Isn't that up to the discretion of the individual?

A Cupra R with Revo chip can be pretty quick, I had a drag against my friends' (on an airfield before people jump on me) and although I was a bit quicker off the line, once rolling he was faster.

Yeah sorry that possibly came across in the wrong way. What I was trying to find out is the best way to use the power without putting too much stress on the drivetrain. There just seems to be so much traction ( in the dry ) !! I'm too old to be a boy racer !!!

To make mine shift I never release the clutch fully before changing up to 2nd. I'm not sure on what the RPM is on launch but it's never been as high as 4.5k. I don't do it much though.

You couldn't do - if you're slipping it right through 1st your clutch must be on its knees.

Not really much you can do re launching. There is no magic formula for getting off the line fast without straining something. Really, you need to be at a roadspeed that'll need 3k rpm before you can let the clutch engage fully if you want to be brisk. Letting it engage sooner will bog it down.

It's not there for long, I just find it's the quickest way into second. Like I put above though, it's not often I do it.

Make it quicker/lighter would be my advice. These newer scoobs are heavy lil buggers compared to the older classic shapes and i think acceleration suffers most.
