Default steering gone twitchy

had my 03wrx approx 5 months still getting used to the car. In the last month or so i have noticed the steering has gone abit strange round town driving country lanes not at high speed im constantly correcting the steering only very minor. On dual carridge ways at 70mph or so when i hit slight bumps in the road it kinda feels like the car is aqua plaining. Has anyone got any ideas what this could be?

First thing check your tyres, are they inflated correctly? Do they have low tread?

Can't help I'm afriad, but I've got the same problem. Started after hitting a very large pothole. Wheel rim was slightly buckled but haven't been able to find the main reason. All the bushes and ball joints seem reasonable with no noticeable slack anywhere.

When I get the time and enthusiasm I'll have to get underneath and have a proper look

I had the same situation with my 94 wrx....

I got 4 wheel alignment and geo set-up from Revolution in gateshead on there Hunter alignment machine

What a difference it has made, Its like driving a totally different car,

So i'd recommend getting your alignment done

My P Zero Nero's have started to tramline badly with 5mm of tread left. It has made the car very twitchy, I'm trying to hold on a little longer before replacing them. I've had the car from nearly new, so know how it felt originally.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have a look when I get a moment. Interestingly I have P zero neros with about the same amount of tread left.

To be more exact with more driving I have noticed the the pulling to the left or to the right (or neutral again) normally occurs after a bump in the road or heavy on the throttle or brake.

We also have a pug 205 that does this We changed over to poly bushes thinking it was wishbone bushes and no improvements turned out it was the semi slick toyos, and changing them helped a lot but still not fixed.

Can anyone recommend a good all weather tyre in future for 215/40/17 ??

I've had a similar issue on mine, new tyres (Goodyear Eagle GSD 3's) didn't make much difference, and a Whiteline ALK has helped a bit but not cured it. Going to take it to Powerstation/Mocom soon and get some expert help.

It's not really bad, but sounds similar to what you describe. 02 WRX Wagon BTW.

Well I had check my tyre pressures and assumed a) the gauge was accurate and b) 29 psi in a front tyre was just about ok given the cold weather.

Turns out I was wrong and the car feels infinitely better with 4psi added to one tyre and 2psi to the other front tyre.

I read somewhere you can real feel 2psi down and it certainly seems to be the case. No following its own path and pulling on the steering wheel anymore.
