launching in a auto ( no laughing)
whats the best way in a auto to launch off the line, i was told the best way to is put my foot hard on the break and other foot reving the accelerator any one got a better way? i did it this way at the pod but only got a 15.2 on the 1/4 mile
I think thats the best way, was chatting to a guy at Santa Pod who was running low 11's all day and hit a 10.9 in the afternoon, that was in an auto Supra.
He uses the method you described and I assume the prinicpal would be the same.

In my old Mk4 escort automatic (1.6 CVH) my favoured technique was to get it bouncing off the rev limiter in neutral, then slip it into drive
Probably not good if you intend keeping the car for any period of time, but we were trying our best to kill the escort
****** never did die
From what I've read in car magazines the technique you mentioned sems to be the most favoured. It certainly works in karts with centrifugal clutches

Sarah, you dont need to go when the lights turn green. Take your time and go when you are ready. The timing only starts once you move off. That way you can perfect your launch technique and hopefully improve your times.
Power braking is what the technique you describe is called, and is indeed the one to use. Takes a bit of brutality though, as it's basically abuse of the torque converter. Only do it for a few seconds at a time, and when you do it, do it *properly* - get your right foot down flat, give it a second to get the revs up, and don't hold back at all, or when you lift off the brake you'll not get the full benefit of the power braking.
Good luck!
I think I'll just be stomping on my loud pedal thanks and not holding on the brake ! Don't really want to see my box destroy itself !!!
I couldn't image the MB bill for a new box !!!
