What is the quickest way to go over(round,but straight on) a roundabout once you are sure all clear?
1/Change down to 2nd and use revs?
2/Stay in 3rd and use torque.
Typical dual carriage way roundabout (Milton Keynes speciality).
I use 3rd as feels best and less frantic.

2nd gear, hit the left apex, hit the right apex (the roundabout) and hit the left apex coming out.......
where you plant your foot is up to you but try to drive through the first two and make sure you don't plant it too soon on exit........otherwise you'll end up in the central res......

Depends on how big the roundabout it......... 2nd is faster, 3rd is slower

This is just a natural motion, its hard to explain ! But roundabout size dependent it would be a second gear job so have access to lots of boost . As for going round the roundabout i employ lots of weight transfer to get the back twitching out and avoid understeer through the left hander then for the exit off the roundabout. I've tried to put it into words but failed badly

Need a practice area with no kerbs and pick up speed gradually.
Seems easy but left right flick needs a bit of bottle and I seem to slow too much first and then kick myself for not have gone faster.

A bit of a late response, but in some of my FWD cars, I used to keep it in 3rd, left foot brake avoiding understeer, and carry alot of speed on the exit for the forthcoming straight. But if another roundabout is coming I use 2nd due to only having two feet to use

I think you ought to save up and get your self to a trackday with instruction. Learning how to drive quickly through roundabouts by asking a gang of numpties on Snet ..... 'kin 'ell!

I am guessing from the last two posts that you two don’t live in MK as we have to go round hundreds of round about every day, got to do something to brighten up the drive home from work

My brother-in-law lives in MK (poor guy), so I understand. The sensible stuff aside, I just can't fathom how somebody expects to be 'taught' how to drive through/around roundabouts quickly by asking 'tinternet people. Surely it's down to feel, the roundabout, the conditions, the car, the driver's skill, his level of responsibility, experience etc etc? Does the OP expect to approach a roundabout, think about this thread and then put the 'advice' in place?

My feelings are that instruction and live practice in environments like a track translate to safe speed on the roads. Having to ask a question like this tells me that the OP isn't qualified to drive a powerfull car quickly on public roads. Are we trying to knock 10ths of sec of roundabout to roundabout times here or what? All IMHO of course no offence intended

I'd say the slow in fast out, and smoother the better. I use 2nd gear on everything but the biggest roundabouts and aim for maximum exit speed. Hit left, then right apex and from there it's all about timing... you want to go 100% on the throttle such that the car just holds it's line off the roundabout at the maximum exit speed possible.

I can get a bit of sideways action with lift off and a slight left right flick, but wouldn't fully commit without more practice on a track.

JTaylor, I'm sure you can tell people on here some good and responsible stories about sensible driving on roundabouts, especially how to lose it 180 in a city centre and maybe even how to crash into the middle and write your car off in the process?

Slow in fast out as has been said, i'd use 3rd (as you dont want to change gear when the car is unbalanced, definetly 3rd while finding your lines), for most but it entirely depends on the size of the roundabout.

Pick a speed you know you're happy with, take a bit off that and try different lines until you find the one that at a given speed feels like you're going slowest. Even doing it in 4th would be good for learning as the lack of power forces you to find a good line.

Smooth on the brakes and throttle, dont get caught out by snap oversteer on the left-right as there is usually no room to recover if you don't know what you're doing and dont expect it.

Advice is what I was after.
Been some good advice on other posts in this section.
I will take the good advice, ignore the bad advice,and always drive with a mind that I am on the Public Highway.
Just thought a different post might be useful that all.
