Question Unforeseen manoeuvre

Last week I brought my '02 UKSTi right out of a side turning onto a main road (dry and in good condition), starting from absolute rest. It became necessary to 'hasten' (but NOT 'emergency hasten') the manoeuvre.

Without warning the vehicle broke grip and veered sharply to the offside, so that I had travelled through best part of 180 degrees. I did catch it in time - just - but the consequent veer to the nearside was as violent - and in any case I was taken by surprise. Consequences involved metal, plastic, fences, a hedge, embarrassment, future insurance premium, but fortunately no injuries, nor sign of prosecution!

With which of the following is the initial misbehaviour above most consistent?

1) Outright throttle mishandling of an all-dry car linked with excessive lock,
2) Loss of grip because of a wet and muddy nearside and dry offside (I had within the previous 20 seconds had to put my nearside into a mud-and-water slick on a grass verge),
3) Mismatched rear dampers (N/S one brand new, O/S >10K old),
4) Handbrake not totally disengaged in combination with any of the above, or in isolation.

TIA
Phil (shaken and stirred!)
