STI panel filter in a UK Turbo, can u
Looking to make some mods to the motor MY99 2000 Turbo.
About to order a H&S decat with silencer in the centre pipe, for the wife and the wee mans benefit.
Looking to buy a replacement panel filter also, can anyone tell me if an STI panel filter will fit a UK car.
Is this the best type of replacement panel filter for the car.
Also wondered if I would have to remap the ECU if I went ahead with these mods.
Cheers

Hi
Yes you could fit an STI panel filter to your MY99. You can order it direct from Japan Parts. They will ship direct to the UK (they are normally cheaper than any supplier in the UK). Given the well documented problems with oiled filters and MAF sensors - the STI dry element would seem to make sense. It is very well regarded (I run one in my MY01).
The ECU on the older Scoobs (pre MY01) are different from the later models. While it is not essential to remap (I used to run a MY00 with a very similar setup to what you've described with no remap for 30K+ miles), you would see some additional benefit. I would also strongly consider fitting a boost gauge.
Hope that helps
Chris

Cheers for the info Chris.
You mentioned Japan parts, do they supply parts for the UK model or are they the Jap parts the same as the UK ones.
Any idea how much more gain you got with this set up

Do not know how much of a gain you get... may be it's a psudo feeling, but I've changed from a green panel filter to an STI one, and the car feels more lively (higher revs) than before, and that's with this hot weather.
I've bought bits from japan.com for my UK spec STI 2003 and it's all fitted... do not know about the pre MY01 models though.

Well if I was a mod of this section I would smart ****
JMC - if you email Japan Parts, they are very helpful with your enquiries. The filter I bought for my car was just specified by year and model, not whether it was UK or Japanese.
Price wise - it ulimately depends on exchange rates. I guess import duty is always a threat, but my parcel arrived and there was no hiding what it was and even allowing for this, I would still think it would still be cheaper (at worst the same).

I bought a Splitter from Japan parts, delivered last week
The value of the package was placed under the delivery note, so hopefully I will get away with it too..
It is the luck of the draw though... As I said before, they do have 18 odd days to sens a bill if they feel duty is......due.
