Question

Just taken my MY99 into Quenbys in Baldock for a diagnostic check as the 'check engine' light had come on during my commute this morning.

Three items appeared on the diagnostic unit - MAF sensor; main crankshaft positioning; [can't remember the third ]

The car's diagnostic unit has been re-set & I've been told to go back if the light comes on again.

Given that the warranty expires in just under a month I'm keen to sort anything now!!

A question for anyone still reading this! Any suggestions as to what may be acusing these faults?

Quenbys said that it was quite possible for the fault to show once but then never to re-appear.

Did they drive it and check the MAF sensor was giving sensible readings or did they just check it with the car stationary?

these are not very expensive problems to fix if they are bad.

The maf can be quite steep.

have you considered extending the warranty to 5 years anyway?

John,

Only checked when vehicle stationary. At least they've logged the issue so if it does re-occur it's 'pre-existing'.

Adam,

Funnily enough received my extended warranty offer in the post yesterday. Clearly IM have set the car to develop faults at exactly the right time so that the punter feels worried enough to splash out on the warranty.

Sorry if I am bit slow here, but your dealer cleared a warning light for a sensor that if faulty can and does in some cases cause your car to run lean and detonate requiring a rebuild or new engine and did not even take the car out and drive it to see if it was running lean or not? How about trying to find the problem properly and resolving it?
