Hi!

You have the SUS made by Blitz, they are also making a cold air kit soon.

APS make a cold air high flow induction kit.

HKS make their Racing Suction Kits and Super Power Flow kits.

K & N are developing one at the moment.

If you need any help, info or prices, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to help.

Search around on the www.boxer4racing.com site. They sell a very nice Unifilter based cold air kit. And it works.

Question

Jamie,

Is the Blitz recommeded for the MY01 because IIRC, the Blitz on the MY99/00 was really BAD as it caused a large amount of MAF failures.....

The main reason for MAF failure is incorrectly fitted filters which cause resonance and vibration. Subaru MAF sensors don't like this sort of movement. I have never seen one with bad filtration.

I've got a Graham Goode one with a BIG K&N cone sitting in me garage next to the fishtank. Want to try it? No use to me anymore.

Some years ago, the Blitz importer came on this BBs and said that the filter wasn't suitable for 99-00 Imprezas, due to its poor filtration.

K&N, ITG, standard paper etc will filter down to 10 micron. Blitz filters to 200 micron.

The Blitz mesh filter was designed for them by ITG. It was designed as a race-only filter, but Blitz started selling them to road car customers.

Strange that, they sell me enough of them and have never said anything like that.

We have never come across any problems.

ITG claim between 5-10 microns and K & N down to 1! 200 microns is a bit big though and would find it difficult to believe anyone would release a filter with that type of filtration race or not.

Cheers guys

Chuck - YHM

Jamie - I have also heard bad things about Blitz in the past so I won't be going down that road.

I was just wondering what was about as I used to have an APS on my old RB5 and it felt great - much more pull.

That's what I thougt I remembered. Thanks for proving that I'm not going bonkers

I agree with your 1st sentence but have to say, RE: the filtration, I've seen two manky clogged up MAF's that came off an MY00 that had both times, done about 2-3000 miles on an HKS "Green" Racing Mushroom....

Correct me if im wrong but there are 1000 microns in a millimetre, therefore if a blitz filters only 200 microns then it would be filtering one fifth of a millimetre. Take a look at a blitz filter and then look at a millimetre on a decent ruler, dont be stupid! Now also do this with a new K&N and you will see bigger holes than the blitz, as i have mentioned before K&N filters dont work until there dirty so when they claim figures such as 1 micron then there not lying, because the filter is totally clogged up by this time and the air flow would be crap. The same applies to the itg etc. So yes a blitz filter will not filter as good as a dirty K&N or a dirty foam jobbie but when new its a totally different ball game. Plus bearing in mind most people on here are car proud or power mad they keep there filters clean and dust free. In which case your better off sticking to a blitz because on averages its the best by far, ive had mine for 6 months and now would only choose a stainless filter for induction.

Question

Do you need an induction kit on a MY01? It already has a good big air intake at the front of the bonnet, drawing in cold air from outside. Is a good panel filter not the best (and most economic) way to go?

Steve

The standard air box is about as good as they get. But you wil always get more air with an Induction kit. The next argument of course is whether or not the air being drawn in is too hot on a Scoob. This is why APS and Blitz now make cold air induction kits.
