Question

hmmm, bit worried.

Since sunday afternoon (after getting back from a nice sat evening/sun morning trip to france) the blackbeast seems to have developed a lumpy idle when cold.

When I start the car in the morning, or when I finish work, it starts but does not seem happy, kinda spluttering, and if left, without giving any revs it will stall. Once it's warmed a little it seems ok, or if I give it a little bit of rpm then it smoothes out.

Have I broke something? It was serviced (full service) 25th April so shuold be in good nick, plus it does drive ok.

just wondering if my antics on the continent have damaged something? have I killed the turbo? (does seem to pull the same as it did before though)

any ideas?

obviously I should get it down to the garage, but I thought I'd ask on here first.

The two most common faults with a dodgy idle are MAF and O2 sensor. I'd get it put on a select monitor if you don't have access to someone with Deltadash.

That should at lest show what the sensors are reading.

I had a similar problem with my old 93 WRX , it would hesitate and idle erratically at very low revs as if it was just about to cut out. Once it was up to normal temp it was fine.

After much researching on the BBS , I decided to change the O2 sensor and bingo , it was rectifed !

Might be worth getting the O2 sensor checked

Cheers.

What could kill the O2 sensor? would perchance running on 98 RON fuel plus Octane Booster and sustained high speed of say between 100 - 140 mph? Just wondering as it's only started happening after, umm, a spiritied drive (obviously not on UK roads)

Don't suppose there is a quick and easy way to tell if the O2 sensor is dead?

Sods law! I'm off to the go to the garage and she starts first time! typical! anyway, go to the garage, they reckon it's a fubared temp sensor, probably telling engine the wrong temp, hence it not using cold start mixture, hence the problem. Getting a new one fitted next week.

Got them to also check the engine over, after the little jaunt, they said it sounds fine, so i'm happy!

cheers for all the advice.
