Angry

Still having problems! Seems that the car is fine after tinkering in the evening, and the next morning, the gremlins have been at it again!!

It idles smoothly, I haven't noticed any extra fuel consumption (yet), have seen no other signs of a problem!
BUT it still feels like a 2 litre sport on the way to work in the morning!!

(Have no boost gauge, but there is definitely no turbo whine)

Have cleaned the boost solenoid, but will try again...

Could this be the infamous MAF, or is it more serious?

where abouts r u?
its a MY96 isn't it IIRC? if so maf failure isn't as common and I thought that caused lumpy idle. check all the pipes connected to the dump valve and wastegate
soz can't think of anything else.

At work on the IOW!
Yes, it's a MY96, engine is standard.
Thought MAF made everything go lumpy as well...

Thanks - will check the pipes again - could have missed something last night.

btw I just bought a Defi (after sending the Phatom mechanical one back) and the difference is stagering. ok.. its £100 more but it is sooo much better. theres a seperate control bit that records and plays back.. remembers maximum achieved boost so you dont have to watch the gauge when you gun it off the mark you just hit record and belt it off and then play it all back once your parked n waiting for the engine 2 cool down

ok 2 other shots in the dark.
1) fill with optimax (if you have it on the Ise ) and Reset the ecu.
2) (this is a big one) The Turbo bearing? do you idle the car after every jouryney? although I've no idea what the symptoms could be. I've also never read (in here) of a MY96 turbo failure.

We have optimax here It's not that backwards!!

Yes, I always idle the car - even when it's being sulky... and when the turbo works it sounds "right" - a smooth high pitch whine - the power from the boost is as it always used to be.

Suppose it could still be a leaky hose that I haven't spotted yet

Thanks for your suggestions

Just looked at the ECU diagnostics again, to find the Throttle position sensor abnormal code. Could this be the missing link?

Are you saying that you've checked for ECU Fault Codes and it has come back with Throttle Position Sensor?

If so then that could be your problem. Presumably, if the TPS has gone then the car won't be a)fuelinig properly b)advancing the ignition c)allowing more than 0.5 bar boost (wastegate spring tension) because it doesn't know how much throttle there is....

Yes to the ECU check - let it run two or three cycles just to be sure.

The car has been less lively lately, so I would say that a, b and c are almost certainly true
(I haven't been driving the car much while it is sick)

Just had a look at the TPS, and it looks very dirty etc, so cleaning it up (or replacing it) may solve the problems.
